[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Running while cutting the grass? (Page 1 of 2)

Anybody do this? I was on my way back from the store and saw a guy that lives down the block cutting his grass with a push mower, but he was running up and down his yard. It was like his wife wanted the grass cut in less than 10 min. Anybody seen this before? I just kinda made a  face. It was actually kinda funny.

I do it sometimes, when the grass is thick and lush, to keep momentum. (I use a push mower, with tire/gear driven reels). I am the engine. When the grass is too thick and lush, the resistance is great and it is easy to "stall." Despite what keith J said above: Faster ground speed equals faster clip rate = better cut for this mower. Here is the yard. It was all brown and over half weeds when I took over the maintenance. There is no irrigation. I use a hose to water it.  |

I was put on a lawn mowing detail when I was in the Army at the 120 Bn. at Fort Jackson. Some female Drill Sargent had us mowing the B Co. grounds and as time wore on she had us mowing all the grass around the mess hall and down behind the reception PX and the Drill Sergent School. It wouldn't have been so bad if we could have used the riding lawn mower that was normally used for the task but the keys turned up missing (in the Drill Sargents uniform pocket). We had to do it with one broken piece of shit push mower. She told us "Privates you will have this grass mowed before you do anything else, I don't care if you are out here with flashlights mowing all night." We decided to take turns running with the lawn mower. We ran and ran with that lawn mower for several hours in full BDU's, but we got it done. Good times. I know Cool Story.... |

ETA: Here it is I was thinking more along the lines of one that you could stand on and ride like a skateboard without wheels. but if you tried to take it on water it would stall and this dude with a plate in his skull would laugh at you and say "Boards don't work on water! You need power!" and then he'd come at you on his more hardcore mower wielding a baseball bat. But then you could hop into the water right as he swung so he missed, causing him to fly past you and into a courthouse... That would be awesome. |

Wow I just checked on about the Allen hover mower, and dang that is very expensive, it is very ideal for me since i have a slope that I reallly hate to mow, just a big pain in the ass to do, and usually the wheels will ruin the slope. But for 800 bucks i gotta pass on it. |
