| Alive or dead? |

I cant imagine, even if he had landed successfully, that he would have made it out of those woods alive, and with much of the money.
IIRC there was some speculation that the parachute he jumped with was not even a useable one, but one intended to practice stuffing a pack with, i.e. it didnt deploy and he free-fell straight into the ground. Forecast says 98% chance of DEAD. |

Probably dead... but he's a legend in the skydiving community. He definately is a legend. I earned my "D.B Cooper #" for jumping out of the "airstairs" on a 727. This was at the World Freefall Skydiving Convention in Quincy Illinois in 1993/1994?? The skydiver in me would like to think he made it but that was some tough terrain and he jumped in some bad weather... |

Caught. Under another name, pulling a similar game a few years later.... Details? Richard McCoy... Same scam, over 2x the money, shot by the FBI when caught... Wow. I just looked him up. I guess ol' DB did survive the jump after all. excpet that dude was at home with his family when the cooper thing went down |

There have been some pretty compelling candidates for his identity.
