Yes BUT (and that's a BIG BUT)

I am LICENSED to do so. For God's sake check your state laws.

ALSO, I have NEVER used it because I have yet to meet a situation that I couldn't diffuse with a lesser use of force option. You still have to close with your attacker to use a baton and I don't like getting that close to smelly bad guys.

I prefer to pepper them down from 6-10 ft where they can't reach me. [flamethrower]

I thought it was the best thing ever when it was issued, and in 5 years I have never used it.  In fact I stopped carrying it.

I have seen them get dented in use and they won't retract.

I carried an ASP for years, but now I carry a Peacekeeper RCB baton. It's alot sturdier.

I have a "Detective" aluminum model and also a 27" model.

Have been told that if I ever use the aluminum one, just to consider it broken as soon as it is used. ASP has a lifetime guarantee if used legally. Send it back and get a new one.

Carrying one concealed in NV requires approval beyond a basic CCW since we are required to qualify with each firearm we want to carry.

AZ's CCW allows you to carry any and all weapons concealed so you should have no problem carrying one if you have a CCW. I am not sure how your recent law allowing you to carry a firearm without a license applies to the ASP though. My understanding is that there are some differences in the dos and don'ts when carrying a firearm with a license and without.

I see no reason to carry one though. Using an ASP has the same legal requirements as a firearm. If you need to defend yourself because you are afraid for your life or the lives of those around you a firearm makes a better force multiplier. If you run out of ammo you can always pistol whip them.

Check your local laws first. Get some training.

I used mine on deserving folks a few times, back in the day. Was always pleased with the effectiveness.
That being said, check your local laws very thoroughly and get training so, if you should have to use it, you don't end up charged with agg battery with a deadly weapon.
It was explained to me that, here in NM, with training, it's considered less-than-lethal force (unless you strike a lethal target zone). Without training it's considered deadly force, even if used correctly.
YMMV.

Thanks,
Lee

I've got one, and I'd pass.  I don't think they really have the mass to get the job done.

Yes, you can see it on the belt in the pic.  Along with the finest .45 handgun ever designed.

I keep one in the truck as a back up to the FOX 5.3. If the spray isn't enough, then they get a face full of baton. If the baton doesn't work, then the G30 comes out.

I use mine for picking up nastiness, poking through stuff and breaking glass.  If you intend to do any of that, get one.  If you want something for personal protection, get OC if legal.

Texas considers them a illegal weapon. A club. It is a class a misdemeanor you do not want to get caught with one.

Had one it will not stay "collapsed" after a little usage.  Get a button released/locking variety.  Check your state laws and if you travel between multiple states often check theirs too.

I had a surplus Czech 24" one I used one for myself in Tallahassee, before I could CCW a gun. I would smack concrete bricks in half with it. Very good weapon, better than a regular pointy stick.

I'm just kidding.  The poor grammar was an effort to show that.  It's rather pointless to tote around an ASP baton unless you're a uniformed officer with use of force restrictions / protocols.  If I wanted to keep dogs off my heels, I'd use pepper.  If I want to protect myself from criminals, I'll use a firearm.

I'm certified with the PR24/Straight baton but don't carry one due to having a taser/firearm/spray/cuffs X2, etc.

I wonder if the handcuff guy will make an appearance in this thread?
