I am trying to play a blue ray disc on my dell laptop and it is not equipped with a player (software).  Something called Dell Media Direct that is supposed to play it keeps making me update it.  I have installed at least 12 of the updates and still no luck.  Thanks for the help.

lol, unless you have the hardware, a blue laser disc player, it won't work.

Give MPC-HC a shot.  Might work.  Never tried it with Blu Ray myself but it is my second choice behind VLC for pretty much everything.  According to the release notes, it is supported.
