This might explain it more:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z75o-F6ja2I Looks amazing - I saw the preview a while ago but didn't get it, but it is slowly coming together. I think it will be one of those great movies. Looks like it will be in IMAX too Synopsis from Wiki: Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief in the art of "extraction," stealing secrets from deep within the unconscious mind during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him valuable in corporate espionage. In one last job, he must cause an "inception" – instead of stealing an idea, he must plant one. Christopher Nolan, the director of the movie, was quoted as saying "We don't do magic. Everything in Inception has a basis in reality, except for the technology"
Matrixesque but in a different way? |
| Visionary filmmaker Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight) writes and directs this psychological sci-fi action film about a thief who possesses the power to enter into the dreams of others. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) doesn't steal things, he steals ideas. By projecting himself deep into the subconscious of his targets, he can glean information that even the best computer hackers can't get to. In the world of corporate espionage, Cobb is the ultimate weapon. But even weapons have their weakness, and when Cobb loses everything, he's forced to embark on one final mission in a desperate quest for redemption. This time, Cobb won't be harvesting an idea, but sowing one. Should he and his team of specialists succeed, they will have discovered a new frontier in the art of psychic espionage. They've planned everything to perfection, and they have all the tools to get the job done. Their mission is complicated, however, by the sudden appearance of a malevolent foe that seems to know exactly what they're up to, and precisely how to stop them. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide |

Here's my problem with it. If the special effects all happen in dreams, then they're completely pointless. "Gee, a train in the middle of the street, that's so fantastic!" But wait, having a fully rendered street in your dream isn't?
The basic conceit of the movie that special effects are impressive regardless of their tie to reality, and we know that this isn't the case. |
