This is the way to do it. Utah uses firing squad to execute killer.

In Utah, the weapon of choice for firing squads is the .30-caliber rifle, which uses powerful .30-30 cartridges designed to take down big game such as black bear, deer and moose.
Do they mean 30-06? That would be a sight to see if they were all Lever Action Rifles.

| When they did it in the past they had no facility to use. They bolted a chair to the floor in the mess, and hung a sheet up. They would cut 5 slots in the sheet, and the shooters would shoot through the sheet. They used Winchesters in 30-30. 4 live rounds and one blank loaded by the warden. It worked so well that they built a dedicated facility. Today they have a range with a chair bolted to the floor, and a steel wall with a lever on it. The prisoner is strapped to the chair and a paper circle is saftey pined to his shirt over the heart. When the lever is pulled the 5 slots open and spot lights are shined on the prisoner. 4 live rounds and one blank are loaded by the warden, and the 5 volunteers from the sheriffs office fire. Today if I am not mistaken they use M1A rifles. |
