I purchased a dvd on Amazon.com and forgot to check out the region that it is in.  The dvd i bought is in region 3.  Does anyone know if that is playable on a ps3 or laptop?

Yea, you shouldn't have any issues playing it on a laptop. Your PS3 might be a bit of a stretch though.

I was hoping I would be able to play it on my Ps3, but I guess having it on my laptop is better than not being able to watch it.

Well as I recall the PS3 <Or at least early versions of it> were region locked. That's why I said it might be a stretch. By all means though try it. If it works let me know so I can break out all my foreign region films and take them on campus next semester to watch during my several hour long breaks between classes.

What DVD?

Most likely it will not work in either device. PS3 is region locked and your laptop most likely will be using software that is region locked.

The only way to get around it would be to use a program like DVDFab to rip the DVD and then copy it without the region code.

There IS a chance your laptop drive is region locked & can only be changed 5 times.  So you'll have to legally archive your DVD and create your one and only allowed archive copy with region disabled.

YMMV, IANAL, etc.
