Anyone else suffering from poison ivy?
My nuts, arms, and eyelids itch. Not as bad as it was last summer. What works, and how long does this shit last? |

I use acetone. Kills the itch, stops the oozing. I just dampen some tp and wipe the area. No, Im not kidding. I take it on camping trips all the time. No Acetone, but I have some gun scrubber in the basement. Would that help destroy the oil? What about seabreeze? |

Yep, acetone or rubbing alcohol RIGHT AWAY after contact will completely remove the oil from the skin. I actually had a full branch of poison oak hit me right in the face and I thought I was fucked. Ran inside and soaked my face with both and it never showed up at all. My legs (which didn't get the treatment) completely broke out in oozing sores and itched horribly for more than three weeks. In fact, my right one swelled up pretty badly for a few weeks. I still catch myself scratching them (probably from the subsequent drying) and it's been easily two months. If you do break out pretty bad, borderline scalding hot water seems to do the trick to stop it from itching for a few hours. |

belive it or not blacksmiths use the sump water from their quench buckets to stop poision ivy. the iron in the water dreis out the oil real fast and speed the healing . i have used it once and it was noticably fast gone in threy dats for a little bit on the top of the hand.
mix saw cuttings ot powedred steel with water let it rust and walla just my 2 cents that seems to work for me |

The hottest water you can handle first with soap and water. Then I used spray deodorant.
Is dries up the oil for a while. As soon as it starts up again in a few hours, rinse the old deodorant and reapply. I got it bad last year form weed whacking. My legs killed. Just be careful you don't literally scald your legs from the water. |

A better method might be to not rub one out after weed eating. ![]() This isn't the first time I have had it down there. Probably had to "readjust" myself after touching the wound on my arm. It did not start out on my sack. So you've had this happen before, and STILL rub one out after weed eating? |

Methylprednisolone
Depo-Medrol 8 -12 hours to copletely stop new blister. Starts healing the existing blisters within a couple of hours. Doctor will prescibe a fweeks worth in the form of a dwindling dosage pill pack they also might give you a one time starter shot. If you can't to this by all means do take the BENADRYL. It's a very potent anti-histamine and will cease most if not all of the itching while doing a good job at helping to limit the formation of new blisters. You should mind what you eat and drink for speedier results. I will only drink unsweetend tea during poison ivy outbreaks. Stay away form spicy stuff. Army Info on Poison Ivy Go to Walmart or CVS and get ZANFEL Poison Ivy Wash You must get rid of everything that came into contact with the stubborn, sticky Urushi Oil produced by the plant to rid yourself of further outbreaks. The oil does not move around in your body it is stuck here and there in varying amounts or is transfered by touching it. When it soaks through the skin it produces new reactions. Take your time washing and don't use hot water as it open the pores and speeds the oil's penetration. Use hot water on any clothes that came in contact with it to prevent secondary application of the oil to your skin. The oil can stay active for years on stuff. |

As others have said, wash well. Going for a swim is generally hugely helpful.
That being said, calamine always helps, but one of the things we learned is a magic bullet is jewel weed juice (touch-me-nots). Get some (they usually grow around streams & such) & rub the leaves on the affected area. Natural neutralizer. Read about it here. Used to love playing with it when I was a kid, the seed pods exploded when you touched them. |

As I understand it, white shoe polish is really effective. never tried it myself. When I used to get poison ivy (even on my junk one summer But the GF recommends white shoe polish... |
| I keep Dawn Ultra dish washing detergent under the kitchen sink at all times . If I come into contact with the stuff I immediately head inside and wash with the dish detergent it does a great job of eliminating the,oil and I have never had a outbreak as long as I do that. |
I was doing some weeding in the back yard. I didn't even see the danged stuff, but I got nailed on my right forearm, and some on my other arm and on my legs. I've tried hydrocortisone in the past, but this time I'm just using plain old calamine lotion. ETA - the bottle of calamine lotion I'm using lists both calamine and zinc oxide. Wiki says calamine is a mixture of zinc oxide and iron oxide. Never knew that. The zinc oxide is probably what makes the white shoe polish effective. |

Avoided it the last few years. Right before I enlisted though I ended up with about 70 percent body coverage. Yes poison ivy to the junk region sucks all to hell. Then I caught it on my 7 day ftx in basic. Let me tell you this much, when you come down to see the drill sergeants on a Sunday morning with an eye swollen shut and tell them you need to go to urgent care, they don't argue or give you shit for it. Massive doses of steriods is the only thing that got me back able to see in time for graduation.
Use denatured alcohol if you can get your hands on it and this shit. Get it |
