I believe that they make their own. I also recall that my parents visited there in the mid 70s. At that time they were dismantling captured Soviet tanks and installing new turrets and main guns thereby allowing universality of ammo among their forces.

Yes the Merkava is a all Isreali production.
And the Maglach series are so heavily reconstructed that you cant recognize that they were originally M48's and M60's They sold the last of their rebuilt Centurions to South Africa- where they are known as Oliphant. And they have made a fantastic APC out of the T54/55. That is the origin of those funny wedge shaped things that are all around the Yasser Arafats office...
