I grow my own mint (grows all over like a weed) for my mojitos and make a simple syrup with lime and mint for the mix.

Mojito Simple Syrup

2 cups sugar
2 cups water

heat water to dissolve sugar, remove from heat.

add 1 cup mint leaves, lightly crushed
add rind shaved from one lime - just the green part only, avoid the white part underneath

allow the lime rind and minit to steep for 15 minutes or so, strain and store in refrigerator.

I add 1 oz simple syrup and 2 oz white rum plus 1 oz lime juice...add ice and sprite.

Oh!  Many thanks!  This is our first year for growing mint and I love the idea of the "premixed" syrup.

I make them in the heat of the summer.  There is in my estimation no more refreshing drink to be had on a hot summer day.

Mojitos are delicious.

I believe the last thread I give some lucky guy a muddler or two.

You just might need one of these, for when you drink mojitos.

Until we grew mint, G&Ts were my go-to beverage.  I feel a little guilty for neglecting them.

Best one I ever had was in a Cuban restaurant in London called Havana. Somewhere on Kesington High street I think.

the place was run by Cuban expat.

I had so many mojitos I almost missed my Jack the Ripper tour.

Drunk+Aldgate East tube stop = stoopid.

Mojitos are fucking delicious and they aren't a girly cocktail anymore than a real martini (none of that appletini or chocolatini shit), a manhattan, or a gin and tonic are girly. They were the favored drink of Hemingway, and I think we all know that Hemingway was pretty damn manly.

They're pretty good, and your hipster cred goes waaay up when you drink one. If you wear a starched crunched up cowboy hat, pooka shells, and drink one barefoot it's unstoppable cool.

Only slumming it with PBR while wearing a $120 pair of Teka sandals can match that level of pretentiousness.

I used to think they were some kind of metrosexual, trendy, homo-banner kind of drink till I went to the 07 SHOT and I was standing in a bar with some legitimate door-kickers and real life been there lots and done it lots kinda guys and while I drank a Whisky Sour they all drank Mojitos. Later when we went back to the house they had rented for the show they broke out the fixens and started whiping them up themselves while I stuck with beer.

A few months later I went on a Caribbean cruise and decided to try one and I have to admit, they are fucking yummy and perfect for hot weather drinking. I have no problem ordering them the few times a year that I find myself some place that serves them.

If a couple SEAL's were in a bar and sucking dick, I'd still think it was gay.

Just sayin.

Every trendy bar is in full-on Mojito-Mania right now, it's just what the hipsters do. Yummy or no, it's the cool kid drink until something else comes along.

Not my thing but the Cuban place near me serves mojitos with a swizzle stick made of (peeled) sugar cane.  It's a nice touch.

You know, I like the idea of being a mans man, but the application sucks.  That being said I love mojito's and when I was in Iraq all I could think of were Vodka daisies and Daiquiris.

Although a Mojito is not my cocktail of choice, I do like the fact that people are using just a few, simple, REAL (mint leaves) ingredients to make the drink, not shit like Red Bull.

A cocktail should be sublime simplicity.

You can also use that syrup to make hard lemonade.  Fill a shaker with ice, squeeze in a whole lemon, add 2oz vodka and 2oz simple syrup, fill with water.  Good stuff man.

Don't feel too bad if your mint crop sucks this year, they typically don't do much in their first year.
