Need new tires for my '98 Expedition. Money is tight, so I am having to go on the cheap. Anyone running Goodyear Wrangler AT/S on their vehicle? Any problems or issues with them? These: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=159745&navAction= |

I am a real fan of the Michelin LTX M/S. Not an off-road tire or anything but they balance well and wear like iron. Very good NVH qualities, too. I have some on my Suburban than have 50,000 miles or so on them and I don't see why they wouldn't go another 50,000. ETA: Of course, they are not cheap. But pay now or pay later . . . ETA2: If money is really tight, find a used tire/wheel shop. They will usually have take-offs with very little mileage from people who put new rims on their vehicle. -p. |

OP, my experience with the Wrangler AT/S is secondhand, so take it FWIW: A buddy and I used to have identical trucks. He put a set of AT/S on his, and I put a set of Cooper AT's on mine. Both tires were same size (305's). He got a little over a year of wear out of his; I had three on mine and they were still going strong. We both drove quite a bit, but I don't have exact mileage. The Wrangler AT/s look good, but they just seem to wear out quickly.
If you're not planning on a lot of off-roading, I would stick with the Michelin M/S or A/T. They offer good on-road performance, and decent off-pavement (not serious off-road) performance, and they will last forever. I have seen a set of the A/T's get 60K miles on a K5 Blazer. I put a set of Firestone Destination LE's on my wife's Explorer last year, and they have held up extremely well in 20K miles. They weren't too expensive, either. |

Anyone? I need to buy the tires this evening. Yes I am. I drive a good ways to work now and when I was in college I put a lot of miles on my GMC Jimmy. First set of tires I bought for it, I bought from Wal-Mart. Uniroyal Liberators A/T. I put 75k miles on them and they still had some life in them. No balance, mounting, service issues, etc. Got these Goodyear Wranglers from my local Wal-Mart and have had no issues with them. My boss has the same tires on his Durango, had them the 3 years I’ve worked here and they still look good. They’re not overly loud either for an A/T. I’ve had great luck thus far, knock on wood with Wal-Mart tires and service, though service seems to vary by store/location. My sister got tires for her 4Runner at Sam’s and has had no issues either. |
| I'm having a hell of a time getting my new Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors to balance out on my 4Runner. Two of them have excessive road force and need to be replaced. I've had three Hunter GSP9700 machines try to balance them with lug centric adapters and they're still full of fail. Sorry union boys, I gave you another chance and you failed, again. |

Firestone Destination LE
Firestone Destination A/T I had the Destination A/T on my Jeep Cherokee and it was a great tire. I'd stay away from Goodyear and Michelin because unless you buy their top line tires your only paying for their name when you can get better tires cheaper. I had the ATS goodyear on my Jeep and they sucked, wet weather traction was non-existent along with slush/snow driving. |

Sears sells the exact same tire under the Private Label of Michelin LT/4 or something like that... I've got a set here that is at over 70,000 miles. The wear marks are close now, but I might be able to break 80,000... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v477/DriftPunch/4Runner_lores.jpg The tires in question on my 'Burban. I have AT/Ss on my Avalanche and am happy with traction. They tend to be a little noisey but if the price is right I would get them again.
Cooper ATRs are also a nice tire, thats what I am going to switch to this fall. My AT/S s have almost 40k and will need changing before this comming winter. Good luck with em. |

I just put tires on my KIA Sorento today at Sam's. I got the BF Goodrich Longtrails...I got nearly 56,000 miles out of my first set of those and I got new ones for $129.12

Michelin X Radial LT2 or LTX M/S2 My backup choices for cheaper would be Cooper Discoverer HT. I have those Michelins on my truck..........I should have saved $400 and bought 'Liberator' tires (Uniroyal) from Walmart. ( and Costco's tire service is WORSE than piss-poor...) |
