I saw this weapon in the SPIW display at the US Infantry Museum and Soldier Center at Ft. Benning. Many of their exhibits lack complete information about the objects.
I did notice that their M4 was captioned "M16A2". Overall they had some cool stuff and their cards were accurate, but a lot of the cooler exotic stuff was lacking any informaton or even ID. They did have an M26 underbarreled shotgun, which was pretty cool.

Anyways, here is the interesting experimental weapon I'm seeking info on (sorry for the crappy cell-phone pic):

It's a bullpup weapon with a removable box magazine in a larger rifle caliber such as .30-06 or .308 The bbl has no handguard or any form of shroud around it.

Under the bbl is some sort of launcher, my guess is 40mm. It is magazine fed, and the box mag juts out towards the camera on the left side. I didn't see any form of manual loading mechanism, but it could be semi-automatic.

The Museum at Rock Island Arsenal has many weapons that look very strange.  You have to get the numbers off of the tag below it then walk over to the books to look it up.  It usually says something like:  XM-1672 w/40mm launcher.  These kinds of things happen when bored government firearms tinkerers have a slow year, or years.  Good luck finding your answer.  Thanks for the pic.
