So I'm looking to get my CCW, but need some help on what the hive recommends. I've always owned and shot .40 S&W pistols. My favorite right now is my Sig SP2022. 3000+ down the tube without one jam, but I think it is to big to use as a concealed carry.

So with that being said what do you guys think the pro's and con's are of each caliber?

9mm
.40
.45

I've got my eye on a Glock 30, Glock 19C, Glock 23C, or the Springfield XD versions. Or should I just stick with .40?

Thanks for any info.

And away we go!

I like my Glock 23. Conceals well without being too small to handle well.

consider going smaller.  The smaller it is, generally the more comfortable and more often you'll carry.  It does little good laying on the nightstand...

I've seen this thread before.

I carry a Glock 19 (9mm) packed with 16 rounds of Federal HST Love.  YMMV.

Glock Fotay!

Seriously, if you are comfortable with it, why not try carrying it.  Lots of people carry 1911s and them things are huge!

The best bullets in each caliber create practically indistinguishable wound profiles.

Find a gun that fits your hand and shoots well for you.

So are the standard versions just as comfortable concealed as the compacts?

IMO, you still have to live the Concealed Carry Lifestyle unless you go micro.  That is, picking your clothing carefully and wearing a firearm like luggage.  Unless I'm going into the hood, or zombies are at the wire, I prefer a seecamp in the pocket.

YMMV

Stick with .40

I have a Bersa .380 in my pocket right now.

Better than not having anything.

Thats what I've thought, because I'm used to it, but the .45 has always fascinated me for some reason.

The Glock product line is separated by full-size, compact, and subcompact.  The 9mm full-size is the Glock 17.  I carry the compact Glock 19.  The sub-compact Glock 9mm is the Glock 26.  I can easily conceal a Glock 19 and have no reservations as to my ability to send multiple lethal rounds downrange if I have to.  Again, YMMV.  I won't argue the semantics of Glock vs. 1911 nor 9mm vs. .45.

Ya I didn't want to start a debate, just not very familiar with other calibers other than .40.

I have no problems with the .40.  I have shot many .40 caliber handguns and don't have any trouble controlling the recoil.  That is, I don't find it to be "snappy."  However, I made the personal choice to consolidate my caliber choices and, based on a variety of personal factors, I chose 9mm over .40.  IMHO, 9 is fine.  Furthermore, I have seen much internet evidence of unacceptable failure rates in .40 caliber Glock products.  These are primarily due to the "unsupported chamber."  Haters refer to Glocks as "hand grenades."  Again, YMMV.

I can personally reccommend the following that I have and do CCW on occasion

XD45- This is my 85% of the time EDC around 6500 rounds and NEVER a hiccup

Kimber Warrior 45 ACP- 10% EDC (was my primary until I got the XD45 and fell in love) it is approaching 10k rds and other than trying cheap mags or neglecting to clean it has been very reliable

The following get carried the other 5% when I just want to carry something different

Beretta 92FS 9mm
Springfield Loaded 45 acp
Sig 2022 9mm
Walther P99 9mm

With a good quality holster any of these can be CCW'ed with nothing more than an untucked Polo and pants with a quality gunbelt

I have a few compact autos and shorty revolvers that I pocket carry every once in a while but the above are what I can tell you have and do workfor me for CCW weapons

Carry what you've trained with.  Carry it every second of your life for 6 months and you'll wonder how you lived your life without it.  There is no pistol "too bulky" to conceal if it is a part of you and your movements.  I carry a Kimber warrior most days and an Hk45 on others.  I'm only 5-11 and 185 and wear t-shirts for concealment.  Op-Sec is still intact.

All of my current semi-auto carry pieces are in 9x19mm: CZ 75 Compact, H&K P7, SIG SP2022.

The SIG can definitely be carried and concealed without much trouble, but you are right insofar as it is less than ideal for that purpose.

My EDC is the CZ - relatively slim, reliable, accurate, and it packs 14+1 with a completely flush-fitting magazine.

Carry whatever you are confident, comfortable with, is reliable and gives you the best chance of getting hits with. Don't get all wound up about 45vs9vs... Those who have a right to an opinion say9mm/38Spec as a power floor - works for me.

In the Summer, I often carry a Sig239 in .40 S&W and feel comfortable with both weight/bulkiness (lack of) and level of protection with the .40

Of course, if I ever need to use it, the media will say I used a 40mm AK47
