| I have a Paraclete vest with level IIIA soft armor inserts that I tried to sell to a military surplus store. He gave me a low bid saying that the soft armor degrades over time and is not worth as much as when I bought it. Is it true that the armour insert degrade over time? |

Maybe Bulletproofme will. |

Yes, it degrades but is effective until it reaches its expiration date. It's effective after it expiration date as well. It's just no longer guaranteed to be effective. Yes, sweat, heat, UV light and wear will all degrade it's function. |

As already posted, the temperature, humidity, and other conditions, along with age can make ballistic panels wear out more quickly.
Most manufacturers used to put an expiration date of 5 years from date of manufacture. I've shot vests that were worn year-around for over 5 years, 5 years AFTER they were taken out of service, and they still stopped the bullets they were rated to stop. |
