| Does anybody use it to sleep? |
|
There was a discussion about melatonin a while ago. I've used it; the thing I like about it is that it doesn't make you feel "sleepy"... it just gives you that feeling that you could go to sleep. The same feeling you get when you hit your normal bed time but you decide to stay awake anyway.. know how I mean? You could easily fight it and stay awake. Placebo effect? Maybe. When I really wanted to sleep (like say, on a plane) it gave me that feeling, but it wasn't strong enough to overcome noise, distractions, etc. I stayed awake.

Every now and then when I have had a day that I didn't do much physical work. I will take this mouth spray that has melotonin and a couple other herbs in it, under my tongue.
In about 20min. I will start to feel it coming on. It is mild, but enough to help me get to sleep. |
|
I use it regularly, if I know I'm a bit keyed up and won't be able to drift off on my own. It will make me sleep for 8+ hours. My dreams are normal. The effect lasts 10 hours for me, so if I take it at midnight, I'm stll drowsy till 10:00 am. I try and take it about 8 or 9 so it won't make me oversleep.
I've been a lifelong insomniac, since like 4 years old. This has turned out to be the best thing to combat it. |

It seems to stay in my system too long to make it worthwhile. I suppose taking it earlier in the evening would help quite a bit though. |

Quoted: Its ok. More a of sleep "aid" rather than something like a sleeping "pill", if you know what I mean. Gives me fucked up dreams and a headache in the morning if I don't get 8hours with it. You, too? I use it when I'm on 3rd shift to help get some sleep during the day...but like above...get occasional headaches or very vivid dreams. Weird...being as all it's supposed to be a naturally occurring substance. |

Works well if you take it right before you go to bed. Usually leads to really vivid dreams for me. I've had several lucid dreams on it. I've noticed the same thing, but I was also taking it with ZMA which sometimes gives people vivid dreams. They were crazy enough that I felt like I didn't sleep all night. But melatonin taken by itself works great to make me feel tired. |

I've tried it. It did absolutely nothing for me. Other than leaving me feeling fuzzy and slightly drugged the next morning, even moreso than my 4 hours of sleep I finally managed to get would have done. I tried it more than once, never with a positive result. Benadryl doesn't really work for me either. |

As I understand it, Melotonin works as a "trigger" and either helps or lets your body understand that it needs to produce sleep inducing hormones. If you take too much, your body will actually produce counter hormones to tell you, in essence, "wake up!". So, unlike other chemicals, with Melotonin, the less the better. |

I love it. I only take it when I really need it but you take double the amount and you feel great and sleepy.
I use it when flying to middle east to sleep for a long long time during the day when I should be up and awake. My wife used it once and slept for 12 hours. |

I've found the trick with melatonin is to start with a small dose (500mcg is the smallest I've found) and see if it works for you. Start small and you'll find that it is very mild. And it works very well. Taking a large dose (3-5mg) might be too much. And that can lead to unpleasant side effects like grogginess the next day or unpleasant dreams. |

Did not enjoy it. When I used it, I was up exactly 4 hours later fully awake. ![]() Sounds like you're taking way too much of it. A previous time this topic came-up here, most people were taking two to five times as much as they were supposed to. As with any drug, you should do research first before blindly taking a large dose. Try cutting your pills into 1/2 or smaller pieces.z |

If I have to go through the trouble of cutting up a 1/2mcg pill, I'll just take Benadryl or Doxylamine. |
