I have several MP3s that I want to make into ringtones but I need to edit the length and content..
Also, I'm hard of hearing and need loud ringtones for my phone so the program needs to be able to increase the volume.
Oh, one more thing, it needs to be SIMPLE TO USE !!  I'm no sound engineer.
Any ideas ?

Ok, I used itunes to make a edited copy and it is now saved in itunes next to the original song.  Problem is, I can't figure out the next step and how to get it converted to an mp3.
Its an mpeg4 audio file now and when i'm in the itunes section where I made it it doesn't give me an option for a "next step"
HELP PLEASE !!
I really don't care what program I use to do this and I downloaded a couple but they require a degree in sound engineering to operate.
I need the editor for dummies version I guess.
Any ideas ?

You guys are shitting me right ?
That looks like the sound engineer stuff.  How about a tutorial ?
How do you get a song into the thing ?  I tried dragging the song from itunes but it said it didn't recognize the format.

I always used Wavepad to make ringtones. http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html

My phone will play wav files.   I turn the mp3 into a wav, then edit the parts before and after that I don't want, then put them on my phone's memory card.
BAM!  Led Zeppelin ringtone.

all I do if I have a song in WAV or MP3 format and want to make a ringtone, is I open Audiacity import it, trim it as needed, resave it to MP3 and upload it to my server.

then I email the link to the song to my dingleberry, open the link from the dingleberry and it is downloaded and added automatically

it sounds like a few steps but I can have it done in less than 5 min

I never pay for ringtones

Bitpim works pretty well.

That said, with my Droid, I can take any song stored on it and with 2 clicks turn it into a ringtone. No conversion software, no hooking it up to the computer, no trying to trim down the song. Find a song in the music player, click menu and then click "Set as ringtone."

I love my Eris..

I used Windows Movie Maker. Free and easy.

Import song, drag the bars and save.

I have the Eris also.
Let me explain a bit further.  I have no problem getting the song onto my phone, I NEED to increase the volume of the song with an edit program so when I have it on my phone I have enough volume so I can hear it. More than the volume on the phone allows.
I have ringdroid on my Eris and while it does edit start and stop it doesn't do volume, at least I can't find where it does.

I've used mp3trim, was perfect for this purpose. Wonder if it's still around?
