I've often wanted to holler out "you're welcome" whenever I'm at the store as the person in front of me pays with food stamps (or "link" card in illannoys) is exiting. I am on my last nerve with these people!!!!! Today I went to town and spent over $300 in things I needed. I forgot to pick up BBQ sauce, so I stop at the Dollar General to get some and some woman with four kids is paying with her link. I follow her out and she is getting into a late model mini van. I am sick and fucking tired of being held liable to support this fucking scam! |

Except for the last two years, I've worked since I was 15. I'm 40 now. Fuck you. Some of us need it and have earned it. Now you have done it. Prepare for the wrath of the JSmith88 and his band of merry men to take you to the pit for daring to fall on hard times. |

She starts a part time job next week, which is all she could find, and she will still be elligible for FS but at a lower rate. |

I don't know how it works in Florida, but in IL it is nothing but an entitlement program that folks have learned to make a living on. I don't mind giving a hand up, but I am sick of giving hand outs!!! |

It looks like a credit card but has an outline of the state on it and says "LINK" in big letters. I've seen people exceed the balance on those things and then pull out a wad of twenties to buy the rest. It has really gotten out of hand here. It is just an incentive for people to crap out more kids and live off the .gov tit. |
When I was in high school I worked at a grocery store. Talk about frosting your nuts. Some people really skimped to make it last, on the other hand I liked the guys who would come in and buy whole ribeyes, all name brand shit, 20 oz bottles of soda because they didn't like having to pour out of a 2L, candy bars and 50 lbs of ice so they could go outside and ice down their 3 coolers full of beer. Always had enough cash to get their smokes though.

In Florida the Food Stamp Program changed it's name to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) effective October 2008.
Your benefits are deposited into a cash or food assistance account each month. To get cash and buy food or other items with the benefits in this account, you will use your Benefit Security® Card, which is commonly called an EBT Card. |

My Brother has congestive heart failure. He has a few years left unless a transplant is made. He has quit smoking, and stopped drinking several years before being diagnosed. He has also lost about 60 lbs, and is doing whatever the Dr.s tell him to do. If they tell him to eat shit he will do so. He has worked and paid his taxes for the last 19 years He can no longer work, even if he could nobody will hire him. He is on food stamps, and collecting social security. On behalf me, my brother, his wife and 4 children.
Thank You. So help me god if I am ever with him and some smart ass make's a comment like that....... It won't be pretty. |

Last person I go behind was buying all organic foods, nuts, ice cream....and radicchio. The radicchio was for their rabbits. $2.30/lb...for their rabbit. I have no issues with people needing help...legitimately. But I think the food stamp program should be handled as a food bank. You have X amount of people in your family...you go to the food bank and pick up your weekly allotment. Didn't they recently bust some folks down in FL for literally millions in transactions (over many years) of people going in, trading their card in for cash at like .50 on the dollar and the business pocketing the rest of it... ETA: Yup...$3.5million worth... http://www.abcactionnews.com/content/news/local/hillsborough/west/tampa/story/Food-stamp-fraud-crackdown-nabs-six-local-clerks/H_fsYcrM6ECFnxI7kg7dtw.cspx |
| Let me clarify. If you need some temporary assistance in between employment, etc., that is what these programs should be for, not a way of life. That is what angers me to no end, the .gov fleecing my wallet to support deadbeats. Myself, Lord forbid I should need it, but I've always considered myself a frugal person. Once when I was laid off, I started budgeting. Things folks don't need that can help fill in the gaps would be cable TV, cell phone, internet service new cars, cigs, booze, steaks, chops, gormet food etc. You'd be surprised what you can do without .gov assistance. What really pisses me off is those who have all of those things and still live on aid. |

It won't be pretty. ^^^THIS^^^ My younger sister is a Food Stamp recipient. She has been unable to work while helping her husband recover from injuries he sustained from slipping off of a third story roof while pressure washing it. The concrete that he landed on didn't really care that he wore no harness. It also didn't care that his employer sent him up there even though he objected on the grounds of his safety concerns. He was told to get his ass on the roof or go home and don't come back. Since said employer did not have the proper Workers Comp coverage, my brother- in- law and my sister have had a really hard time financially. What a piece of shit she and her husband are for trying to keep their family afloat, and feed their 2 children. ![]() I would slap the everlovin shit out of anyone that made a snide comment to her about it. |

I have no problem whatsoever with people getting a hand-up during hard times. I view it as an insurance policy that I hope not to have to use, but that I'm glad is there in case it is ever needed. To those in this thread with legit needs and using the system that you paid into, I hope things get better for you. You don't need to "thank" anyone.
That said, what I saw at the store pissed me off today. The woman in front of me brought two carts of pure junk food to the register. Somehow, the cashier managed to get her bounty of CASES of soda, ramen noodles, juice boxes, klondike bars, and chips into a single overloaded cart. Her bill? $0.17. Not sure why that was, but she had to dig in her purse for a quarter. I don't mean to be the "food police", but I see that as somewhat of an abuse... |

You folks on welfare can make any claim you want. I don't care how much fat you lost, how long ago you quit smoking, how stupid your ex-boss was, none of it.
I'm NOT paying your bills, got it? YOU are the reason I choose not to work for US currency, why all my investment accounts are 90%+ in cash, and why I earn and report ZERO income. I don't like your fucking attitude. It's my money, I choose where it goes. Not you. I'm on strike. I don't like the deal you have "offered" me. I quit. Go squeeze blood from a turnip. Or don't, I really don't give a fuck. Make any "claim" you want on my income, have a real party dividing it up. All $0.00 of it. I didn't cause your problems, and I'll be dead before I allow my effort to pay for YOUR mistakes. Your move, general. |

Mostly computers, but I've done retail, I've worked in a psyche hospital, I can do security or LE as well. I can pull wire, swing a hammer and push a saw. I can pick up just about anything I put my hand to. I moved to Florida for a number of valid reasons but now it's time to broaden my reach. Everybody here wants either college kids or retirees. The first is easily replaced, and the second they can be sure will show up and won't bring any drama. |

It is called a 'Bridge Card' here in Michigan.
I was at 711 couple weeks ago. Couple pulled out cash and bought a lotto ticket. Then after that transaction they attempted to purchase a bag of popcorn, a bag of chips, and two Slurpes using their Bridge card. The cashier explained to them that they could not use the card to buy Slurpes. So they left with the two bags of popcorn/chips. Maybe some people really need help, but people buying junk food using working family's tax money. FUCK THEM |

FUCK THEM People who live on welfare want to live the quality of life that working people do...and many times they do, or even better! The nurse at work has told me some stories that reeally get the BP up too. She used to be a visiting nurse who would make rounds to different homes. A lot of her visiting was gov subsidized. She would go to welfare homes to find big screen TV's, everyone smoked, they had big dogs, fridege stocked with booze and choice cuts of meat, etc, etc. And to top it all off, they get free health care from a visiting nurse! Something drastically has to be done to end this madness. In illannoy they are crying to raise our taxes or they'll have to start making cuts to social programs. Where does it end? I guess I'm like my dad. He's a generous and charitable man who will help anyone he can, but you'd better never lie to him or pull a scam on him. |

Your move, general. You may talk big now, But if the day ever comes when you fall on hard times, Your attitude will change I've been on hard times. Lived in my car for six months once. Had to hitchhike 1600 miles to Dallas another time, left with $1.98 in my pocket, got there with $0.02. Camped under freeway overpasses. But within a week I had a construction job, and a paycheck and climbed back on my feet by myself. Ever packed lumber and drove nails at 115 degrees farenheit? SOME folks do what they have to. I don't mind helping people out when they are down, but I choose. Last fuck I'm going to help is the one who tells ME to fuck off, that I OWE him something. I don't. If you want it bad enough, come take it, becauase that's the only way you're going to get it this time. The attitudes have pissed me off fair and simple and this time, y'all can starve. I'm DONE working, DONE creating, DONE paying tax, until you all are DONE fucking off. Come take it, or go eat a pine cone. |
| I worked at a grocery store in my teen years. I put two hundred dollars worth of groceries, paid for by food stamps, into the trunk of a newly 94 trans am. It was 1995 when this happened. I was young, but still ticked off for the right reason. Three years later, my older brother lived off of stamps for 6 months because the job he was doing his internship at didn't pay enough for him and his new bride to live off of. (She also worked at Wal-Mart and they lived in Pittsburgh) He transferred and still made barely enough to get by, but they dropped the stamps for "those who really needed them." I would say, for those six months, they really needed them. He is far from perfect, but I wish there were more people like that. |

They're called the Independence Card here. Independence from a job? I've heard dignity cards too.
I was in the 15 items or less check out lane behind a woman with 75 to 100 items. She pays with her welfare card and then the difference in cash for those items that don't qualify for food stamps ... and then says wait I forgot something ... and walks away with the conveyor belt full of her groceries. I'm thinking formula, cold medicine ... we wait a couple of minutes for ... two sodas. Poor and stupid go together pretty often. |

in wisconsin the food stamp card is called the QUEST card and subway and papa murphy's accepts foodstamps ![]() The Quest for more tax payers money! Yes, and this is why America can never be restored to it's pristine beauty. We are a welfare state from here on. When that POS FDR told everyone there'd be a "chicken in every pot" (whether you had chickens or not) that basically sealed our fate. We are starting to see the end results of that right now. Obama could never have been elected in a country void of the welfare mentallity. Anybody that thinks America can survive and yet continue the welfare handout is delusional. |

I fucked up, majorly, when I ETSed out of the Army. I had a sweet Defense Contracting gig lined up after my 6 year enlistment, and had just completed my SF 86. Long Story short, Boeing and Northrop, both, didn't have their new budget approved for the fiscal year, and by the time that happened, my Security Clearance had gone dormant. All of this happened right after my first son was born. I went to work for my in-laws at their cattle ranch for two months, until I was hired by the Union Pacific. We were on WIC during that time period (I wasn't going to ask for anymore help from family). That was the most humiliating two months I have ever had. I cannot even begin to describe the embarrassment of using the WIC card, and feeling like a failure as a man, due to my inability to provide the basic necessities for my family. I could not look the cashier in the eye, and kept looking over my shoulder to see if anyone saw us pull out the card. It escapes me how people can do this for a living, and not be bothered, at all, by being on permanent welfare. |

I think one state has a "dignity card", we have Lone Star card here.
