| I have a ton of brush in my yard that I need to turn into little piles of wood chips. I don't really have the need to spend thousands of dollars on a hardcore wood chipper and the $100 electric model at Lowe's will probably not get the job done (I'm guessing). I don't have any buddies that own wood chippers either. Is there such a thing as renting one from a hardware store or something? I've never heard of doing this but wasn't sure. No good deals to be found on craigslist either. |

Home Depot rents one that can handle 6" logs for $125/4hrs or $180/day.
I bought a Craftsman that can handle 3.5" branches (8hp, definitely not your momma's chipper-shredder) for $350 on Craigslist earlier this week. I've already used it to destroy one brush pile, I figure two more and I'll have saved money. People are selling whatever they can to keep the lights on these days, the economy's definitely hurting a lot of people but if you've got cash you can make a killing on CL. But, I will admit the chipper scares the shit out of me when I'm using it, I need to dig up my old paintball mask to wear instead of just safety glasses.
