I have a linksys BEFW11S4 router. It's currently unsecure. How do I secure it?

You need a drill and a padlock. Also a piece of chain.

WPA-2 encryption, at a minimum. Don't bother with MAC address filtering or any other "security by obscurity" crap.

WPA-2 is fine for residential use, stay away from WEP as its about as easy to walk through as wet toilet paper.

Gotta login to your router. Just type 192.168.1.1 into your address bar. That is common anyways, it should say on the bottom of the router. Should also have a generic username and password there too. You need to change the generic one or the security you setup is worthless.

ETA, some older systems will require a Microsoft update for WPA-2, otherwise you can only use WPA.

I'm running Windows' 7..... I simply want to set up the network to where someone wanting to log on has to type in a password.

See above, WPA and WPA-2 make you have to enter a password. Login to the router, there should be a security link or tab.

WEP is obsolete... the statistical attacks against RC4 make it completely insecure.

MAC address filtering is also insufficient.

Use WPA or WPA-2 with a long and random passphrase.  No actual words, no words with simple letter-to-number substitutions (like "1" for "i"), and no jargon. Brute-force password cracking tools have dictionaries that include foreign languages, professional jargon, letter-to-number substitution plug-ins, etc.
