Whats it normally cost to have a sleep study done if you're uninsured? Also, if you know you have sleep apnea already, is there anyway you can just buy the cpap machine that auto adjusts? I dont have insurance through my work, and believe i need to go for a sleep study.

I just had one done at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota. The sleep study cost $3,937.83 afterwards consultation $285.00
CPAP machine cost between $1,300.00 - $1,600.00
One month consultation with fallow up.
I have not bought my machine yet! I, too, am looking for a used one, or a better price.
I know with Mayo Clinic you have to pay for the NAME, and services.
I will do a Google search. I have a prescription for a cpap.
Feel free to add comments! The people I talked to like these machines, say they sleep better, and feel rested when they wake up.

EDIT to add: I have heard (with insurance 80% / 20%) RENTAL per month of a CPAP machine is around $90.00...

Sounds like it would be cheaper to buy a cpap machine and try it out to see if it helps. any danger in that?

There was one on the Louisville Craigslist last night, very lightly used, for $150.

There are settings that need to be made. You'd just be guessing when you set the airflow rate.

Typically the pressure would be between 5 and 15cm. Not sure what would happen if you just try out a pressure and see how it goes.

I don't think they auto adjust although that would be a cool feature. Ah, just read there is an auto cpap, sounds like it does adjust?

When I had my sleep study done about 10 years ago my insurance wouldn't cover it, so I had to pay out of pocket.  I paid about $800, mostly because I negotiated a "cash price".  I did have a specialist that looked over the results, which insurance did cover, so I can't guess as to that cost.  But the surprising thing was that I didn't need a CPAP machine.  My problems were nasal and throat related.  I had corrective surgery performed instead (turbinate work, deviated septum straightened).  I might have to have some trimming done on my soft palate in the future, but for now the surgery has worked absolute wonders.

My advice is to get a sleep study and find out what you really need.  A CPAP machine for me would have been a waste of time and money.

My last one was around $2k, and didn't tell us much.

My next one? No clue....VA's footing the bill.

You need a prescription from a doc to buy.  And you do need to know what your "pressure" setting are.  My study in a local sleep lab hospital was $3200 a night.  I had to go twice.  Luckly I had better insurance then than I do now.  Machine was 2K but mine has the cutoff when you exhale.  Pressure drops and much easier to sleep with.
