It was a good tool to keep in touch with family and friends but its time to go. Every time I log on that damn chat box pops up with someone wanting to talk. I hate chatting on those things and people feel like they are entitled to a hour long conversation with me and get pissy when I log off.
What can I say? I have my Gun sites to browse.
Plus some British chick that I never even met but have just been chatting to has started to profess her undying love for me. That alone is enough not to log on anymore. My wife would kill me. The only ones I want to talk to on that chat thingy are my kids. Friends and family. Gotta love em. |

You CAN just turn off the chat. Open the chat box and click some button on there that makes you look like you're offline. You only have to do it once –– it saves from session to session.
I don't like text chat in general, so I turned that off. Facebook is pretty good about this, though. You can actually setup "friend groups" which you add people to who have special permissions. e.g., I have a "peeps" group. They can see me when I'm online and chat. Some people I like enough to be friends with on Facebook but not so much that I want to be ambushed with chat requests. And if you don't like getting messages from someone, you should really just take them off your friends list. |

you know you can turn off the chat right? And that you can remove friends from your profile right? |
| I just deleted mine because of their never-ending war against user privacy. Went to check mine yesterday and they had turned all of my interests into pages for all on the interwebz to see. There is probably a way out of that but I am sick of their blatant disregard of folk's wishes for privacy. |

I haven't logged into Facebook in months I think. I hate it. I think I'm going to delete everything and then disable/delete/close my account.
I actually hate bulk e-mail too. I'm thinking about a rule where if something goes to more than 3 recipients, it get's deleted. |

I just make a list of people I don't want to talk with and add them to it. Then I click on the little green dot thing and make myself appear offline to them. Haven't had any problem ever since. I just tried clicking on the green dot thing and it just makes their chat box pop up. |

Quoted: You realize you can turn off 'that damned chat thing' right? I love all the facebook hate here. GD is just as bad as facebook, anyone who thinks otherwise has their head in the sand. yes this, if you can deal with GD here, then facebook is a walk in the park |

I never got into the "Friend Hoarding" that some people do on sites like Facebook or Myspace. I really don't want total & complete strangers peering into my life......well beyond what I post on ARFCOM anyway. ![]() |
