I'm still getting some popups using Firefox and Adblock Plus, is there another good blocker or am I using this thing correctly?

For example I go to SeattleTimes.com (god damned liberal fricking piece of poo newspaper, however I check local news there) and the popups still get by. I just want to stop things like that.

Thanks.

I'm also interested for the same solution. News websites with their pop ups... yeah...

I know you can right click on ad images and select to block it. I am not sure it will work for popups or not, but it is worth a shot.

Also make sure that the popup blocker built into Firefox is turned on. Tools -> Options -> Click on the "Content" tab and "Block popup windows" should be near the top of this tab.

Hope this helps.

Just don't use the internet or find a subscription based website.

Interesting, I go to the seattletimes.com website and get neither pops-up nor embedded ads.  I'm using firefox with the pop-up blocker turned on, and adblock plus with the basic easy subscription or whatever it defaults to.

Also use noscript. It can sometimes be a PITA but it turns off javascripts. You can tell it to permanently or temporarily allow sites to use java.

is noscript another add-on or is that turning on an option?

Interesting, it didn't start for me until the most recent cleanup in which I changed everything on my laptop. Now I think its something i messed up then. Thanks for going there and checking by the way.

How dare those asshole media companies use advertising to help cover the cost of providing you with free information.

For example when I go to this story about a homeowner taking a shot at a car prowler, one of the side ads pop-up.

Adblock Plus together with Flashblock are sufficient for my browsing habits.

Noscript as stated can be a pain but might offer that extra little bit you are looking for if the above don't do it.

I understand, I would simply like to use a free blocker to block all that free advertising. I don't mind the ads on the page itself by the way, I don't like the idea of pop-ups though that force it on a separate screen.

AdBlockand NoScript are two of my favorites and what I think is preventing popups in this case.

Did you make any exceptions?

Ah, that was it. I forgot to re-install NoScript. Almost positive that's it.

When sites started using pop ups that shrieked noise, it was game on.
