I've been talking to a recruiter for the National Guard about joining, and taking the mos of 92 Yankee. I wanted the 92 because I guess that's where
the job of armorer has gone too (I know about 91F but it's not available in South Dakota). Well the recruiter called tonight and said 92 Yankee wasn't available and that 74 Delta was closely related and could easily move to 92Y when it becomes available. What is 74 Delta? Am I being fed full of shit? I'd like something working on or with firearms. What say arfcom? |

92Y dont do "real" gunsmith/armorer stuff if thats what you are interested in.
I was a 92Y in a reserves and am now a Quartermaster officer active duty. If living in a supply room ordering shit, issuing gear/weapons, inventorying shit, and doing change of command inventories interest you go ahead. 92Y's have alot of power for their rank though, especially smart ones that know the regs and also know how to ration favors. I doubt it would be a hard job in the guard though, it wasn't in the reserves.... |

I'm 28 and am a carpenter and FFL by trade but I'd like to expand a bit |

The supply section for normal sized company consists of the supply sergeant, a supply specialist who usually manages the arms room, and a chemical guy. None of these people really do much more than inventory the weapons and sign them out.
Not having 91F's in your state sounds fishy. He probably means that the slots are all currently filled. If fixing weapons is really your desire, I'd say try the reserves. But don't get sucked into the supply or chemical fields thinking that you'll be around weapons all day, because you won't. |

Seems like they'd have a 91F section in their support battalion. |

Used to be 76Y. There won't be much in the way of weapons work, except when qualifying time/summer camp time rolls around. You,as part of supply, will rearrange the supply room, evn though there's nothing wrong with it. Clean things that are already spotless.

When summer camp shows up,other than signing out weapons, you won't be doing much either. Lots of guard duty.....helping out the cooks, things of that sort. And when you come back from the field, then the REAL bitching will start,as everyone will have to clean their weapons. Those that aren't cleaned, you will tell them to clean them again.(which cuts into the beer and goof-off time). You,as part of supply, before leaving summer camp will also have to deal with all the turn-ins(sheets/pillowcases/barracks being cleaned. I mostly got outta supply, and into AV POL.(which is supply, but a helluva lot better). |

im a pogue so all I really know is pogue stuff... 91F sounds good if you can get it, see about 91E as well, if you cant work on firearms you can alteast learn what you need to know to build them out of scratch :P
although I havent ever met any army machinist though.... My company had one of the mobile machine shops for a while but it was turned in a couple months back... Personally... Pick the job with the biggest bonus, use the benefits the Guard gives you to go to school and get a commission. Or go combat arms for shits and giggles, I regret not joining the national guard and having a "cool" MOS, although at the time I choose what I thought would benefit me on the civilian side, just as I choose QM as a officer to help me get a higher paying job once I get out. |

But yeah, that recruiter is lying to you hard. Ditch the NG and find a USAR recruiter. |

We had some really dejected looking M35s back in the back. |
