I need to replace our Whirlpool Duet front-loading clothes washer. I don't know where to start with brands. Any recommendations? I might go with another front-loader, but I'm open to a top-loader too. Budget is $700 or less.

I will never buy another front loading washer - personally I think they SUCK!

They don't use as much water - so stuff that really needs to be "cleaned" doesn't come clean!

Top load inefficient washers for me!

BTW - I have a samsung front loader - works like it's supposed to - which is crappy compared to my last top loader...

Good luck - I've heard Samsungs are really good.

My Kenmore 400 works great and was a good price.

After much research I think my next washer will be F/P.  Currently have Maytag Neptunes.  Hate the washer, love the dryer.

ETA- I have to fix my Mom's Kenmore gas dryer this weekend.  Gas valve coil bad after light use only a few years old. 6 month's ago the Kenmore washer needed a lid switch.  They appear to be Whirlpool made- and they are junky.  We're talking top-of-the-line top load washer as well.  More damn settings than I care to look at.
