Never paid it much attention (in all the boxes I've built) but I recently bought a 125W processor that is a serious beast and creates some heat, just noticed my CPU fan is blowing out from the CPU and not onto the heat sink, is this correct?

That's how I've seen it...

All of them I have seen, the primary case fan pulls hot air out from the case.

If it blows in, it will only serve to coat the inside of your case with dust.

I asked this same question awhile ago and I was told that the fan should be blowing air onto the heatsink..

have one extra fan besides the one on the CPU and it was originally blowing out from the case (the way I originally installed it), swapped the direction and opened up the bottom PC slots, doesn't seem to make a difference according to CoreTemp.

get both

Yeah, the fan is supposed to draw air across the vanes of the heatsink, so it should be blowing "out."

what about a copper heat sink instead?  We use those a lot at work on systems (copper anyway).

This one looks to be aluminum.

I'll take: Depends on the heatsink for $500 Bob.

Most retail proc heatsinks will only allow you to install them one way. Some aftermarket heatsinks will specify which direction.

Never seen an oem fan blow away from the processor, they all blow at it. (Disclaimer, I have built a lot of rigs, but I have not built every rig)

Case fan direction depends on your total airflow design.

My rig? Watercooled FTW.
