First series of collisions are set to go off in a matter of hours.  Get your fix at the link above.

You'll quite literally be watching history in the making.

Should we start a pool on where the first black hole will appear? $5 a square.

Well, since light cannot escape a black hole you won't be able to "see" one

For some reason I am drawn to watching this and find it interesting but waiting for the cameras to go dead when it happens!
Have the done any yet ?

They're having a cryo problem.

Doubt there'll be any collisions today.

Meh, not really. This is one of the largest and most complicated pieces of scientific equipment out there. I would be surprised if they actually get it working today.

I had a physics professor that had an uncanny resemblance to Dr. Gordon Freeman.

heh.  They'll get it going sooner or later.   There are a LOT of parts in that thing... I helped train their operators on cryo ops, btw.  I've been an operator in the main control room of that "other" accelerator for over a decade.  The one outside Chicago that was going to destroy the world before LHC was built.  It amazes me that these things work at all, let along colliding protons and antiprotons  (suck it, cern!) for days at a time.

On the plus side, if they destroy the world, you'll never kn

BTW, if you're reading this, i'll make a special i'm-an-i-love-ewe-man mood offer:  PM me, and if we open up the antiproton source for visitors this summer (a bit of an IF because we're running hard and won't be down very long), i'll give you a walk through of the world's biggest and only antiproton factory.
