I used to use Pine-Sol to strip paint off of models if I made a mistake.

try denatured alcohol or isopropyl first. Brake cleaner and other harsh chemicals can pit/deform plastics. what type of paint? Latex, spray, etc? I use denatured alcohol and the scrubber back of ordinary kitchen sponges when removing overspray on plastics.

ETA: Simple green is awesome too!
