Here is a proposal that my father and I talk about frequently.

Instead of just giving every single person that is born in this country a citizenship why not require 18 months of federal service before hand.

Everyone who is born here is a resident and when you are 17-18 you can start your federal service. This being military, forestry, clerical, construction, road work, etc etc. You earn money while in and once you are finished you can receive citizenship. Then offer people to stay on for higher pay or what ever.

Birth in this country would grant residency with the Right to EARN citizenship while immigration could be given the chance if they meet certain requirements (IQ, language ability, lack of crime such as drugs and theft and above, and more).

While I could never see a liberal even considering this as it would force people to go out and take charge of their lives; I for one would welcome the idea and would be more than willing to do that to earn my citizenship.

Hmmmm, why not?

Because indentured servitude does not = freedom?
Because in the real world, it benefits progressives far more than conservatives?
That pesky constitution thingy we accuse the libs of disregarding?
Freedom means you have the freedom to disagree?  You do realize there was no * saying because you might slow me down while I trample your rights that I don't agree with on the
don't tread on me flag right?
Equal protection under the law.  If I am physically incapable of meeting the service requirement either A)I can never be a citizen or B) there is an exception and no equal protection.
