I am having a bit of nostalga after watching some short films on Ford.com regarding the classic Mustangs.
Do you remember the first time you saw an American muscle or classic car? I do, it was 1988 I was five and a red 1966 Mustang with a 289 parked next to my house. The car was in perfect condition. Guy who owned it bought it new after returning from Vietnam. I would wait for hours to watch him leave he house on Saturday mornings in that car. I loved it, and everything about it. The noise, the lines, the chrome. What about you? |

I remember drooling over a Plymouth Superbird in the dealer showroom when my Dad was car shopping in 1970. Of course, he wasn't interested in the muscle car he bought a Fury station wagon Ouch.... Funny, my dad had a 1971 Chevelle SS. It was yellow and never came out of the garage, as it was 100% original and in perfect condtion. I did not see it until after he died in late 1989. Of course by then I was a Ford fan...I do not think he minded. Grandpa took the car and promptly sold it out from under me. We have not spoken for a long time and he does not regret his decision. HE just wanted the cash...and my mom did not tell him no. Just took it and sold it. She is still pissed about that, evne though she remarried and I was adopted. |
| my uncle had a '65 Chevelle. I used to love going over to their house on Sunday while my dad and some friends would work on it.........we would take it to York US30 dragstrip. he had it in the mid 12's ....which wasn't bad for that car in the 60's since he was still driving it to work every day. Then he bought a new Chevelle convertible in "67. It was a SuperSport rag top with a 327. I was doomed. |

Ertl model of a 71 Satellite was my first love. When I turned 17 I bought a rust free (lived in Cali) 1968 Barracuda notchback with a slant six.My mom had to come with to pick it up as I didn't yet have my license, she thought it was nice. The car went to my dads bodyshop for paint and while it was there a deal was cut between me and a local gearhead to install a 440 in exchange for paint and body work on his ride.Got my license and took my mom for a ride, she had no idea. She says,"I think you need a new muffler" |

Family owned a 65 Mustang 289 cid. I would love to have a 2011 Mustang GT I got ahold of ENCS and will be ording a 2012 GT Premium while I am overseas. Could not sleep last night after watching those short Ford flicks. Funny thing is that my wife is just as enthusiastic as I am. Thank God she feels the same way about guns.

Grew up on 'em. My Dad had a new 1969 Firebird when I was 7.....my first "car" was a 1953-55 Ford Panel Truck(we didn't know the year, no title). I later got a 1969 Mach I when I turned 16. 351W with a dealer optioned shaker hood scoop....my dad bought a sweet 1969 428cj with 69,000 miles. He paid $1500 for it(sold it a couple years later for $2750 and thought he did good!). They were just cars back then(circa 1978). My Mom had a 1968 fastback, 289, PS,PB,AC, pretty nice. |

1970...I was 5. Neighbors had a 1968 GTA 390 Mustang.
1974. Neighbor had a Hemi Cuda...and a Hemi Super Bird. 1984. Last day of high school. 1965 Shelby in school parking lot... 1970 GT500 Convertible right next to it. I rode in the GTA, The Cuda and the "Bird. I drove both Shelbys after high school, as I was working on them from time-to-time after high school when I was restoring mustangs. The cars are still in both families, and have not been driven for almost 20 years now.

He has been telling me that since I was 9 after him and mom married. Now he thinks differently. He wants a 1967 Impala SS. It was his first car. Someday I will get him one...even if he has to restore it himself. |

My brother had a '71 Chevelle he bought from my grandparents...sweet car. We were both in High School and had math science at one HS and English/History at another HS across town. There was a bus...but my brother had a car! Everyday there was a race from Northern to Central thru downtown Flint with all the kids that had cars. We won a lot of those races, miraculously never got busted.
Brother totalled the car by running a red late one night, it was sad. |

There was a steady stream of seriously fast cars stopping by my house growing up. My dad was a mechanic, and he knew small-block Chevy's quite well. Lots of Camaros and Chevelles. The kid across the street had a really cool Super Bee, too. Dad? He drove an old Jeep Commando with a V6 Buick. My mom had a Malibu with a 283. |
| My first one was The Grey Ghost, 66 Mustang 351W with a 4 speed from a 390 an a 9" rear from a 57 station wagon. I learned a lot from that car. #1: build it yourself, don't buy other peoples junk. I built my 67 Mustang and lost my licence to drive. Had a few big block Mopars and small block Chevys and then we had kids. Guns are much cheaper to buy and customize than old cars. Still wish I could have bought my mother in laws Superbird. |

Rusty fenders, gutless engines, severe understeer, excessive body roll, horrible fuel consumption, ear deafening dump-truck exhaust systems, chintzy domestic quality. I still have my 07 Mustang GT, but I know for a fact there are much better cars out there. I ordered mine because it was the least expensive way to get into a sub-$25k muscle car with a manual gearbox. Ford cut a lot of corners with the S197s. The 2010s and 2011s cost way too much for what the car is really worth. |

When I was 6 my dad brought home a '69 Camaro Z/28. Learned a lot from him watching him work on it, then a few years later got to help him with the resto of a '69 SS L78 Camaro.
I remember too when I was little, I'd always see a black Mustang 5.0 rumble up the street. Holy shit did those Flowmaster's sound good. Probably what hooked me on 5.0's. Ended up buying a '91 notchback when I turned 17. Shoulda kept it |

Also, why do you think the 2010s and 2011 are too much money for what you get? |

With Track Pack II, and some decent performance options, it edges closer to $40k. When I ordered my 07, the fully loaded GT/CS Premiums were in the $33k+ range, but I was able to get Shaker 500, power driver's seat, active anti-theft, and a few basic stuff in my stripper Deluxe GT for under $25k. Ford put a stop to that around 08-09 and I checked the 2010s and 2011s to find similar pricing/option strategies. |

I will see how it all comes out. Anybody got any other good ones? |
| Long before I could drive, my brother in law had a GTX, my grandfather had a '67 Mustang and my Mom had a '68 Cutlass. When I could drive, my first vehicle was a CJ5. Then I got a '76 Nova for a daily driver and after that, a Maverick Grabber. I wish I had any one of those vehicles now. |

My first memory of muscle was when I was ~4 years old. My father had gone into the house for some tools, and I climbed into the driver seat of his 1970 Limelight Green Superbird. While doing a Petty impersonation, I must have slipped it out of gear, and it started to roll slowly towards our neighbor's garage. I started screaming for dad, paralyzed with fear, not knowing whether to go get him, or stay with the car through the impending collision (brake pedal? What's that? I'm FOUR.)
With two feet to go and closing, Dad reemerged from the house, heard me screaming to help me with the car, dashed over and applied brake. Fired it up, backed it up ten feet, and went on with whatever we were doing. Not a word was said. Still makes me misty when I remember the time I asked him why he sold it. "We had two kids. We needed a family car." |

I got my driver's license in 1963, and used to go to the Chevy dealer showroom and drool all over the '63 Corvette Split Window Coupe. What a masterpiece ! I bought one (A '63 Coupe) in 1978 and kept it for about 10 years. I still love the body style, so my plastic toy now is the one in my avatar. 1967 Big Block 427, 4 Speed, Positraction, convertible 'Vet. |
