A few questions:

Are they all created equal or is one brand superior?
Do they cause damage/ problems ?
If sight in the AR with .223 will .22 be just as accurate?
Anything else I should know before I buy one?

Based on what I read, I bought the CMMG. I'm waiting for  the warmer weather to hit the range and try it out.

Go with a dedicated upper. Proper twist, don't have to clean the gunk out of your 5.56, optics suited to .22lr.

I opted for a complete upper from Palmetto State Armory. I got a killer deal.

I put the fucker on my lower, waited a week, hit the range.

This is what occured:

We tried five different brands of .22 that half hour. I say half hour, because after that video was taken the firing pin broke, and the front 1/4inch  went missing.

HOWEVER.

I emailed Spike's, and was instructed to call int o speak with Tom.  I was treated like family, even thought I didn't buy from them.  They sent me out  a rebuild kit and I replaced the broken pin.

NO MODIFICATIONS WERE DONE TO THE KIT, SPRING, ETC.  I did NOT cut the spring, tune it, anything.

A few weeks alter I had some off time, and went and visited another Arfcommer in Vegas.

I loaded my mags with the SAME ammo, and out 1295 rounds downrange.  5 hiccups. FIVE.

It is my Professional opinion that The rifle being located in California was the problem.

I've been to the range many times after that first problem, and the rifle hasn't malfunctioned since.  I am VERY happy with it.

I loaded two emtpy .22lr casings in those mags for giggles / see how you'd clear a malf.

So.... three?

I'm glad you didn't have your cam out recording how badly I fucked up clearing them, then.

My Spikes runs like a top...  I'd suggest them to my friends.

Do they cause damage/ problems ? They make wolf ammo look clean.

If sight in the AR with .223 will .22 be just as accurate? Depends on the ammo and the rifle, in my 1x8 the POI is typically low, but in my 1x9 the POI is dead on with my red dot.

Anything else I should know before I buy one? Make sure to buy extra mags and lots of ammo.

Check of the Spikes Tactical Guide for the best ammo to use, 22 kits can be pretty fickle about ammo.

BTW I have a Ciener kit and I use this guide when it comes to what ammo I use, hasn't failed me yet.

Go with a Spikes or CMMG. I built my own dedicated upper with Spikes parts. Mine has paid for its self after a year and a half of shooting.
The only problem I have had is keeping enough 22 ammo on hand.

I got a CMMG kit a few weeks ago. It runs excellently on federal bulk pack, not so good on winchester xpert.

It may take awhile to get the kit broken in but eventually they will run fine.
I found that polishing the feed ramp helps with a lot of the problems

I had a ceiner that sucked.

Now I have a CMMG that runs great!!!

My Ceiner has been 100%, and it's had tons of ammo shot through it.

I had a CMMG that the rear plate weld broke. Freeing the recoil spring.

Next time I opened the rifle, SPROING, parts went flying.

I emailed CMMG and they are sending me a new "frame" for free.

I hope I recovered all the parts so it will do me some good.

I hope it is a one off. The weld was very crappy but it was one of the

first units that CMMG shipped out.

I may re-weld the old frame just to have a spare.

The main problem with 22 conversions and 22 dedicated uppers is

the magazine. They fit the mag well too loose and if you touch them

accidentally while shooting you will get a misfeed. Keep your booger

hook off the magazine and you will be much happier.

I hear that there is going to be a new black dog aluminum magazine

or a new plastic one with steel feed lips. I hope they make the magazine

fit better because it is pretty pathetic.

I bought a Spike's off the EE, and am really happy with it.  I've got several hundred rounds through it now with no issues.

I have a CMMG conversion that I used to make my own "dedicated" upper from a "'94 ban" Bushy w/ a MiniY-Comp . I have more than 2000 round through this set-up mostly 36gr.Fed 550rnd bul pack from Wal-Mart and Federal 40gr. "Champion" and CCI 40gr. Standard Velocity. With the 40gr. ammo this is rifle is suprisingly accurate with my 1:9 twist 14.5" barrel. I have tried the 60gr. SSS (thinking it would be more comapatable with the twist) but they result in larger groups and a few  FTE (this is the ONLY ammo I have any malfunctions with in this gun) The A1 sights required minimal adjustment to zero this gun @ 25yrds.

I am told that firing a few rounds of 5.56x45mm after every 400 rounds of .22LR will keep the gas tube/port clear. For my purposes I do not worry about this.

I am so happy with this set-up that I bought a cheap lower ($55 ShARps) to make this a complete gun. So for the same price as a plastic AR-.22LR, I have a gun that is much more "spec" in weight, trigger, handling etc. and could be converted back to shooting 5.56mm very easily.

I have one for sale if you are so interested brand new ...I have my own that i shot at least 300-400rnds of mostly bulk federal but also a couple boxed of some random stuff laying around last week no probs at all ran great and seemed to be pretty close at 25yrs as the .223 was. Deffinaly reccomend them.
