I want a 17" laptop without spending a ton of money.  What do you guys think of this one?

It's not bad at all, not for that price.

That's kind of what I figured.  I just want a good 17" screen and Windows 7.  Doesn't need to be a super computer.

Any other opinions out there?

Looks like a decent computer. I am looking for a new laptop in that price range but am considering the Toshiba's from Newegg. Might wanna look at those too

The video card is not top of the line, so you're not going to have great results if you want to run movies off it.

Plenty of RAM. HD is adequate, if on the small side. Processor is OK, too. No Blu-Ray drive. Plenty of USB ports.

It's not the best PC in the world, but for the price it offers a lot of value.

If that is what you are looking for, I say go for it.

I won't watch many full length movies (I have a DVD player and PS3 for that) but I will watch plenty of web video, TV episodes on Hulu, etc.  Adequate for that?

If you're watching them on the machine, yes. If you're planning on linking them up to a big screen and streaming them, I'd say you'll probably be dissatisfied.

Yep.  Is that a problem?  Not being a smartass, genuinely curious.

I buy lots of stuff refurb. Saves a ton on depreciation, and usually the warranties are just as good as if you buy it new.

Really, the only relevant thing on a refurb is whether or not someone will stand behind the product.

probably not , but certainly something to keep in mind when deciding on a warrantee .

This one has a full one year warranty as opposed to 3 months on the other one:
