My phone just made a strange noise,I took it out of my pocket and it seemed fine. The keyguard was on but out of curiosity I checked the recent calls.
Turns out I called 911 at 8pm and 1:15am.  There was a message from a 911 operator a little after the first call asking if there was an emergency.
Damn I feel like an idiot. 
I had no idea you could dial 911 with the keys locked and still have no idea how to. They must not have any way to triangulate the signal or anything or they would have been here hours ago. Should I call them back and tell them or let it go? |

With the keys locked, hit the 9 key. I bet you it will say something like "Emergency Call: 9". You can dial 911 with the keys locked on most phones. You can also dial 911 even if the phone is not in service. I've pocket dialed emergency services a number of times. I usually don't find out until I check my call log, and sometimes the "conversations" were quite long (like 20 minutes)  |
I took the battery out of my phone and didn't put it back in for a little while to absolutely make sure it didn't do that again.

I have a crappy virgin mobile phone that is a couple years old. I only spend around $10 a month on it. I'm a 911 operator and we receive lots of calls like this that we label "butt calls". Our SOP is to attempt a callback to the number and if no response, we take no further action. So you shouldn't worry about police knocking on your door. Don't call them back.
I've heard LOTS of stuff on these calls. Some people praying to God and others screaming "Oh, God, oh God...
