I just canceled Comcast for raising my bill (again), extended basic package now $64! - I had enough. Anyone have dish network with the dvr/ receiver option? Thoughts?
Is it worth it or look some where else? |

I have had DirecTV, Cox digital, and Dishnetwork.
I currently have dishnetwork with two Hi-def receivers that run two TVs each and one is a DVR, I have found it to be the best of all options. If you spend some time on the phone with them you can get them to waive a lot of fees and such. When I called to upgrade a couple years back I told them I was also considering directv (even though I wasn't) and they added four $30 credits toward my bill, once every 3 months, and they threw in all the hi def equipment and installation upgrade fee. |

We've got Dish. (Full disclosure, my wife used to work for them.) We haven't had any trouble. Works real well. Planning on upgrading to HD for our downstairs TV. We've only had a weather related signal drop once or twice in 8 years. There are a couple of times a year, for 3 or 4 days, that you get interference from the sun. But this affects all satellite services and many cable companies. (The sun lines up behind the sats for about 20 minutes a day. You get static and occasional signal fade.)
We have 3 TVs upstairs running off 1 DVR. The one in our bedroom, one in our office and one in our exercise room. The office and exercise room share signal, but that's not a problem since both are rarely occupied simultaneously. Our downstairs family room TV has a DVR with both inputs dedicated to the TV. Very handy for recording multiple shows while watching something already in the DVR. Haven't had any reason to change to another service or even think about changing. |

I was a direct tv subscriber... WAS...
When is one of the times you watch tv the most? when it rains? Cant do it no reception. I remember when the wife and I purchased a pay per view. thought this will be great! the sky is clear .. 15 minutes into the Movie the reception goes out .. WTF not a cloud in the sky . I go outside to look at the Satallite dish to see if there was anything wrong and loe and behold a Cumulus cloud right in the way. between the dish and the satallite. With cable if (very rare) that it goes out flip over to a local channel to kill time. cant do that with a Satallite. blech I called and cancelled the next day. |

I don't get the horror stories about reception. I have FIOS now, but I have used DTV in the past for maybe 3-4 years. I even had it set up out a window in an apt (Had to open the window to get signal through the double paned glass and used Plexiglass to block out the cold). When I moved I set it up at my house. Anyway, only the most severe of storms would knock it out and then only for a minute or two. I lost service with cable way more than I ever lost it with a dish. My only assumption is that the people having problems either did not have their dish aligned properly, had trees in the way, or it blew out of alignment because it was not tightened down properly. If FIOS ever comes to your neighborhood, nothing compares. |

I have that service (with HD DVR) with 20Mbps/5Mbps Internet for $95 a month. In 4+ years, it has not gone out a single time. |

I was a Comcast subscriber for many years and had their DVR. I moved and my only options were local cable which is primitive and sucks or one of the satellite providers. Dish seemed like they had the best option. We've now had Dish going on two years and have zero complaints. The DVR is really nice, great interface and has very good capacity. We almost never watch live TV as a result. We have had loss of coverage a couple of times but its overall been much, much better than cable ever was. |

I have had Dish for over 10 years. I love it. I have friends who have Direct. Not even close.
I also have a neighbor who was royally fucked by Direct over them putting it in, him questioning what would happen when the trees grow back in in the spring, they did, signal lost, Direct charged him $400 for early termination. Fuck 'em. One nice thing about having a satellite provider is that you can take a portable dish and a reciever with you on trips such as Sebring for the 12 Hour. |

Dish for 10 years. Great service. Though after they nickle and dime you (like all tv services) it's more than the $19 or $29 or whatever they advertise. THIS !! They provide acceptable tv signal but they are the "RATE BAITER" masters of the universe. Changed over to Embarq (now CenturyLink) and their bundle is tied to Dish. I've had Dish in the past and cancelled them for their rate changes.
Even made the Embarq guy make a 3 way call to Dish to verify if they plan any rate increases...."Oh, no...we don't expect any for at least a year" Begrudgingly I signed up and...... You Guessed it......here come the rate increases. Three more months and I am ADIOS *&^*& Their latest one was a name change of their programming....from "Silver / Gold" packages to America's 250. That was good for a $1 increase a month. Dishnetwork math: $30/month = $65/month eventually Oh yeah, called customer service about this.....their smug answer was " We don't have to notify Tennessee customers of rate increases, its in the fine print contract that you agreed to. Would you like me to change your programing" Me: " No...I plan on making my own programing change in about 3 months, thanks..." |

Same set up here 4 t.v.s 2 hi def/ 2 reg good service.I do believe they are the only ones that have the double receiver set up. |
