OK... I have been hearing that our POOR people have been getting $8000 tax returns due to the EIC and various other tax credits. We just did our taxes and we paid in almost 13k in taxes and are only getting 1600 back. One person I know got the big EIC return and he ran out and bought a 55" plasma TV last week. Truly not in need of food or shelter. This whole thing has be pissed off big time. |

|
In 2007, the top 1 percent of tax returns paid 40.4 percent of all federal individual income taxes and earned 22.8 percent of adjusted gross income. Both of those figures—share of income and share of taxes paid—are significantly higher than they were in 2004 when the top 1 percent earned 19 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI) and paid 36.9 percent of federal individual income taxes. http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/250.html Our tax system sucks. Big time... Just sayin... 10 Planks of Communism...number 2... 2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax. |

Based on the information provided, you do not need to file a Federal Income Tax return for this year unless you need to receive a refund of payments already made. -IRS website |

Wow, there is some seriously bad information in this thread, even for GD. Ask Wesley Snipes how that not paying taxes thing went for him.

My understanding is that you can actually get a larger refund than you paid in total taxes that year, is that correct? Yes, that is my gripe. The sad thing is that a lot of sheeple do not know it. Why sad ? Do you want more to take advantage of it ? If they don't know about it, they may not use it. |

Find a poor person (I hear they smell like sour milk, so they should be easy to locate) 3. Yell, "Hey you son of a bitch, stop being so poor!" 4. Walk away in a better mood |

I've been putting it off but will probably do them in the next week or two, just get it done.
I've owed from 4-5 figures every year for about a decade now. Havent seen a refund since I was much younger, and poorer. Funny that I now pay in taxes every year what I brought home in a year back then....and then the government thought it made sense to give me more free money.....and now, they take more and more...as if I am some bottomless pit of cash to draw upon. My guess is that I'll owe around $3k this year, on top of the money I put in every paycheck. Its a broken, disgusting system. |

I would hope if every tax payer knew it they would vote the bums out of office that support it. |

I live in a rather poor town in Michigan. The IRS just put up a billboard in the center of town promoting the Earned Income Credit. Why the hell would they need to spend money to promote this communistic BS? -James As I was filling out my tax forms, a commercial came on the radio saying how great EIC is and that you can get $5600 just for filling out your taxes! It was two women talking back and forth about how awesome it is to get the free money. |

Yeah, the only problem is it's bipartisan. Reagan expanded it. |

They have an income, but they get every cent they pay in back, then on top of that get the $5600 refundable credit too. They might have $1000 take from their paychecks over the course of the year, then get a check for $6600 back with their taxes. They don't pay anything into the income tax system. |

Quoted: Yep, my nieces fiance made a grand total of 8000 in 2009, paid about 1000 in payroll deducted federal income tax, and is getting a 4500 refund. I made 86000, paid in 14000 and got 600. blow me IRS So, your niece's fiance came away with $11,500, and you came away with $72,600. I guess you could always offer to switch jobs with him so that you could take advantage of his tax situation. He might even be willing to give up his lucrative tax bracket in order to come away with over 6x the income at the end of the year... |

I'm more one of those people who have accepted this for what it is and am trying to make the best of it. To my mind, America has overwhelmingly chosen socialism, in spite of my vote to the contrary (I voted for Palin). Like I said, the OP can continue to make 6x the income of his niece's fiance and pay a bunch of taxes, or he can take a pay cut and start getting government handouts. IMO, being bitter on ARFCOM doesn't change his financial situation in any meaningful way. Personally, I'm pretty sure that I would choose the higher income/higher tax bracket option.

Quoted: The income tax is voluntary. Dont have income, and you will pay no income tax. True - but not in the way you meant it. If you have no job, and bring in no money all year long, you owe no tax... With credits & deductions, you can even have a little job, and a little money, but life will suck... The various scams that promote such bullshit as 'wages are not income', and 'if you're not paid in dollars, you owe no tax' are all BULLSHIT. |

Not filing a tax return when you actually owe taxes is far worst than filing a tax return and not being able to pay the tax amount owed. |

Tell that to all the people that have gone to prison for not paying taxes. Not filing can land you in jail. Not paying will not. Review the tax code. What If I Don't File Voluntarily? The IRS is taking enforcement steps for those who repeatedly choose not to comply with the law. IRS employees will prepare returns when taxpayers do not file. The returns prepared by the IRS might not give credit for deductions and exemptions a taxpayer may be entitled to receive. Bills will be sent to those taxpayers for the tax due, plus penalties and interest. People who repeatedly don't comply with the law are subject to additional enforcement measures. |

Well, try this on for size. I paid $18k in 2009, and owe another $3k by April. No refund, they want me to pay more. You know what I could have done with $21k? God I'm pissed and no alcohol to calm me down... And yes, I just read about a couple that had $13k in total income in 2009 and are getting a $7k wellfare check (it can't be a refund, refund implies that they PAID $7k and are getting it back...they paid nothing). The couple was complaining to the reporter that it's not enough, they should get more. |
