Looks like T-38's to me.  There are also F-5 trainers out there that are very similar.  Not sure exactly what the differences between the two are.

those are good planes (T-38's)

If I could have a jet (w/ reasonable expectations of affording the fuel and maintenance) It would be one of these or a T-37.

Ross Perot junior has one.  Painted as a Thunderbird.  Thing is slick.  One our reservists here who is also Perots "right hand man"(his civilian job) flies it in to Sheppard every now and then.

Do me a favor, call someone over at Randolph and tell them to fly upside down or something. I want to see something besides the same old thing again and again. Thanks.

As I understand it the T38 doesnt have a radar.  At least the flight in Daytona last week didnt according to their pilots.  The F5 would almost certainly have a radar to be capable as a fighter.  The guys in Daytona were out of Missouri, training to fly B2s or F117s.  Cool stuff.

T-38 trainers.

Dual pilot version of the F-5 fighter.

They are great if you want to bomb the end of your runway.

Especially the F22 tigershark.  Its range really hampered its use.

It would have been prefect for some small countries.  But they wont buy what the US doesnt use.

One visual difference between the two is F-5's have a wing root extension in front of the wing where it connects to the fuselage.

The T-38 has no radar however the C model has TCAS now.  The F-5 has a rudimentary radar.  We fought/trained against the Tunisian F-5 in the Mid 90's.  they could never find us on their radar and were dead way before we would show up to the merge anyway.  Here at Sheppard, the B-52 is the kiss of death to a student.  They cannot get a stinkbug (f-117) out of pilot training>

After their 2- 3years in the Predator, they get their fighter.  At least the US students  here do.

If I remember right the F5 also had different engines or a different series of the same engine, either way the F5 is rated as supersonic capable where for all intents and purposes the T38 is not....but hell its been 20 years since I worked on one so I cant remember.

But I still think they are nice looking planes and it's always good to see pics of them still flying.

The original F-5 did not have a radar - it was armed only with IR-homing missiles & cannon.

The Viper has a vastly superior instantaneous and sustained turn rate as well as a lot more thrust.  Not even close in a BFM engagement.  I have merged with T-38s from Moody AFB who were deployed to Nellis AFB.  They were adversary support for Red Flag (a multinational simulated wartime training exercise).  Not really a fair fight at all.  But they are a bitch to pick up visually.

Ross Perot Jr owns Alliance Ft worth airport.  Thats where he keeps his T-38.  These pictured are Vance AFB birds.  Pilot training bases stop in here all the time as part of instrument (out and back) training.  Basically a gas and go.  Its prettty nice because they give you a van and a meal voucher for a barbeque joint about 5 minutes away.  This is because the USAF buys the jet fuel from alliance, usually about 3-4 hundred gallons per T-38.

Step up to the big jets.  There are some airports that treat you real nice when you buy 20+ thousand gallons.
