A Short Neurological Test
1- Find the C below.. Please do not use any cursor help. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 2- If you already found the C, now find the 6 below. 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 69999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 3 - Now find the N below. It's a little more difficult. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMNMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM This is NOT a joke. If you were able to pass these 3 tests, you can cancel your annual visit to your neurologist. Your brain is great and you're far from having a close relationship with Alzheimer. Congratulations! |

Why?
Isn't this a vision test? I know vision is a big part of brain function but my eyes are going to go (have already) before my brain. I found all in seconds. Yes, the 'N' in the top row, third from the right, was difficult but not impossible. Did you try to place them in the blind spot so the brain would fill them in? 15 degrees down and out for each eye...the '6' is almost perfectly placed if your subject stares at the middle of the '9' group. What's your qualification? |

It was for fun....it's not mine. HH |

It was for fun....it's not mine. HH Wasn't questioning your motives/knowledge...I like neurology and behavioral science. Have you read: Phantoms in the Brain by Ramachandran? He does a great job explaining modality in the human brain from phantom limb pain. Amazing work. Also, read: Pinker's The Language Instinct and How the Mind Works... Pinker will change the way you view brain function forever. Incredible work, like none before. |

Took me a long while to find the C. It's hard to keep track of where you're at in the search, without the aid of of a cursor. The 6 I found almost immediately. It jumped out at me. The N felt like it took 10-15 seconds. The C was the hardest for me...took at least 15 seconds...the others were pretty fast. I was a little concerned.... HH |

I found them all pretty quick. I think it's because I've done a good bit of bioinformatics work. Once you play "hunt the codon" enough with thousand-nucleotide text blocks for some project or other, an N in a field of several dozen Ms isn't so very hard.
The trick is to look as a whole and find what does/doesn't fit the pattern, rather than scanning piece by piece. |

Got them all in a few seconds which is good considering that I had some serious dental work done this morning and I'm in serious pain and I've been stacking OTC pain meds and alcohol for the last few hours desperately trying to turn my nervous system off. But then I program computers for a living so I'm used to scanning text looking for an errant semicolon, and I'm the best proof reader in my company. ETA: I used "serious" twice in the same sentence. I suck. |
