Throw a cup of finely diced jalapenos in the batter for those cheddar biscuits and you get double the win!

Damn.  Now I'm hungry.

All I brought for lunch today is a piece of cornbread with bacon bits in it.

My sister makes hers with just a tad of ground red pepper in them, very similar to the ones Red Lobster serves as an appetizer.

I sometimes add a half of the small can of diced Ortega chilies.  Diced into 1/4" squares.

I don't go around altering other people's posts very often but it seemed applicable here.

Fair enough. IIRC, the OP is just right up the road from me (I'm not at home, I'm in the middle part of TN at the moment) so she's probably seeing the same snow I'm seeing today, hence the 'snowy day' reference.

4 cups self rising flour
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2-3/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar

Oven to 425.  Cut shortening into flour. Mix in buttermilk.  Mix in cheese.  Cut out and bake for 20-25 minutes.   Make a dozen big biscuits.  I can make biscuits one handed and blind folded.

I'm going to have to try that!
