Upload an avatar that fits the new site.

175px x 95px
20KB Limit
JPG GIF PNG

I can't get any program to do that size, they all want to make it 175X175, or square no matter the size.

If I put the pic here, can anyone size it to 175px X 95px for me please?

I posted in the avatar cleanup thread after I found it and another member hooked me up.

Thanks for the offer.

That's good news all around then.

I haven't had to run out and buy a new Motherboard plus possibly a video card and/or RAM, and/or a CPU just yet!

The avatar test thread must be full or something.
There is no longer a reply option.
Maybe 100 pages is the limit of a thread?

Since my avatar needs tweeking, I'll play with it here if that is alright.

The open avatar testing thread is a tacked thread at the top of the forum.

I fixed the link in my post.  I'd neglected to make a change to the macro when we had to move to a new avatar testing thread on Friday.

Sorry about that.

I used Photoshop CS3 and had to scale the image down to 160x95 with very low quality to fit the 20Kb max size. couldn't re-use my old avatar so I came up with another one.

It's 175x95, use the save for web (alt=shift+ctrl+s) option, and you should be able to save at no less than 80% quality.

I'm wondering if 20kb is "enough" for the increased size specs?

It would be nice if we could, instead of uploading a photo to arfcom's photo/avatar server, use a Photobucket path.

So...can I download a photo from photobucket?
Do I have to download it to the arfcom photo server first?
If so, where is it?
I've been trying to download a pic from photobucket for over an hour (HTML).
I keep getting a page error message.

Phil, does the avatar have to be downloaded from the Arfcom server, or can I download from photobucket?

I am having no luck changing my avatar by downloading from photobucket, and I can't figure out how to use the media server as I do not have a file there, and I see no way to download pictures to create a file.

Could you edumacate me? I've looked though everything I can think of, but I can't figure out how to use the media server.

Avatars are handled through your profile.  Neither Photobucket or another host is involved. You'll take it right from your PC to AR15.Com

Edit Profile>Upload Avatar

Avatar :
175px x 95px
20KB Limit
JPG GIF PNG

The media server is involved but that's all behind the scenes.

Phil,

I have an 18kb .gif file, 175x95px, and every time I attempt to upload it..... nothing happens.

When I tried to upload my 20.3kb animated gif, it gave me an error msg.

I'm not getting any kind of message now, but it's not taking my image, either.

Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

After you upload a new avatar make sure you refresh your browser cache.

ctrl+F5 or shift+reload for firefox
