I apparently have hit the limit for maximum number of subscriptions.  New topics which I post in do not show up in my subscription list, and when I try to manually add a subscription I get an error saying I have reached the maximum.

This has been accomplished not by manually subscribing, but by posting in threads.  I think the limit needs to be looked at, or perhaps we need to auto expire older subscriptions for inactive threads.  Either way, it looks like the subscriptions feature is now completely useless to me unless I go and unsubscribe to a bunch of threads.

Same problem here. None of my most recent posts show up in subscriptions because the maximum has been reached.

Can someone please tell me how to start an new topic?  I have started one before, but can not recall how.  I can reply to other's topics, but can't figure out how to start a new one.
Thanks,

I've gone back to using "My Active" topics, although the message says it will be removed shortly. None of the recent threads I've posted in show up in my subscriptions and adding them manually doesn't work either. I've tried removing subscribed threads but no matter how many I remove, I still can't subscribe to any new threads.

Look for the "new topic" button next to the reply button.

I have my maximum number of subscriptions - all old and archived.  Every time I hit the MINUS icon, I get a URL error.  I can't add subscriptions, and I can't delete any!!!!

How about in my first post that started the thread, where I suggested a couple of ways to fix it?

Not that I presume to know the mechanics of the custom forum software and the best way to fix it...

How about:

1)  Make it FIFO so it doesn't stop accepting threads when we hit the maximum.

2)  Make it possible to invert the sort so that the oldest thread are at the top so we can delete them quicker.

3)  Allow multi-select deletions

4) Remove the hard limit, effectively making it so that they only expire when the thread is archived!  Anything that expires them sooner is reducing functionality that exists in MAT.

Edit:  Okay, I just did a test.  I took a list of all  the topics listed in "Subscriptions", then posted to this thread with a blank reply.  I then took an updated list (to include this topic).

What happened in my "Subscriptions":  My oldest topic in the "General" section got dropped off, and this one got added.  Is that not what happens with y'all?

Edit again:  For the record, I still only have 100 topics in my "Subscriptions" tab.  The oldest one in this section got dropped, and this new one got added.

Mine doesn't do that, it just stops adding the new posts to the top.  I don't get a warning for the threads I post in either, I only get the warning if I try to subscribe and am at the limit.

Maybe it's just a bug??

I just did the same test.
I have Subscriptions set to filter everything but General, so that's all I'm looking at.

I noted the last topic in my Subscriptions list for general, and then I posted in the active thread titled "A killer speaks"

The new thread did not show up in my Subscriptions, nor did the last topic in Subscriptions expire.  The new thread shows up at the top of MAT as expected.

In addition, if I go find a random thread which I have not posted in and try to subscribe manually, I get a popup saying I have too many Subscriptions and that I need to remove some.

I suspect that the error condition that this popup represents also occurs when I post in a new thread, but it is masked from the end user.

Thanks for looking into this Gloftoe.

I have to say though,

Even if I can get mine to function like Gloftoes, where the oldest is automatically expired, I will still prefer MAT.  The reason is that if I unsubscribe a thread (manually or automagically) and there is a new post in it, I won't get an update.  Sometimes I want to see new posts in previously idle threads.  MAT will show me when that happens.

Same here....
That's the reason I found this thread: My new posts weren't showing up---I figured there was a bug, searched under "subscriptions" and found this thread.
I'm guessing Goatboy knows already.
I like the idea of old ones dying off in a FIFO sort of way, also.

Ok here's how things work...

First off tonight the archived topics got cleaned out and that's now an automated process.

Each section/community has a limit of 250 for Team Members. The "classic" view shows a mixture of all. If you are getting a "max hit" message for a community, go into subscriptions and pull up the main list for that section and you should get all 250 threads.

I'll be adding a multi-select and delete option to make it a little easier and have been a bit nervous about removing any from people's subscription lists in an automated manner. Are you all comfy with me doing a very simple subscribe and replace automatically behind the scenes? It would target the threads which have been inactive the longest. (ie the ones closest to being archived!)

Again, remember that the "Classic" view is just a compilation of your subscriptions from all different areas of the site, sorted by the most recent activity. Drilling down to a specific community will allow you a full view of your subscriptions.

Thanks, Goatboy.  I'm comfortable with you doing that, but I will not use subscriptions until you force me to by removing MAT.  The reason is that your solution means that old threads which get resurrected will not show up for me, and I'll miss conversations that I'd prefer not to miss.  I really wish you could provide the functionality of subscriptions, which is a really cool idea, without having to expire anything.  I realize there are resource limitations you're trying to overcome though.

My ideal solution would be to simply let them expire at the time they are archived, and not sooner.  That way it's impossible to miss a thread that becomes resurrected.

Well MAT is going and the archive system will be automated to make things more normal around here. The 250 cap can also be raised, which is on the agenda. I originally thought 250 per section was a pretty good number!

Well, you clearly didn't account for us post whores!

I think you could convince some people to upgrade if you had a higher limit for higher membership levels.

But I do appreciate all the work you've done here.  I'll be sad when MAT goes.

Filter per section, where it's not adding new ones, and clear out a couple. You will see your full list of 250. I'm actually trying to finish up a few upgrades to the subscription system today and hoping to push it and a few other fixes as soon as possible.

Goatboy,

Subscriptions seem to be broke again, in a new way.

For one thing, when I edit my filters, no matter what I do, it keeps adding 'Classic Subscribed Threads' on its own.  I can uncheck it, submit/save, and when I view again that is checked.  It seems to result in funny formatting.

Also, even threads which I explicitly subscribe to are not showing up.  A great example is the now-active 'Pending AAC Legal Action over ARFCOM Posts' thread.  It doesn't show up my 'General' Section (or any other section.)  Even though people have JUST posted in it, older threads show up instead.  This occurs even after I explicitly subscribed to the thread to make sure it wasn't somehow removed from my subscriptions.

[#27]
Update:

If I check 'Classic Subscribed Threads' view and ONLY that view, I do see the thread in question.  But I prefer the other view, with filters.  As I said before, it doesn't seem possible to get that 'other view' to work due to 'Classic Subscribed Threads' auto-checking itself.

It was a bug in the display having that box checked when it should not have. Filters should be fine now without that issue.

In regards to threads not showing up, make sure you are in classic view or looking at the General block of subscriptions if you are using filters. If it's still not showing up, let me know.

It still was not showing up when I use filters, and I double checked that I was in the general block.  I have resorted to classic view.
