| Hi, I've managed to figure out how to quote someone's post but how do I get the "Originally Posted By:" part in bold, that mentions the person's screen name to show up at the top of the box? When using either of the quote buttons on either editor, I don't see any way to add this. Surely people can't be manually adding this part to every quote? Is proper quoting limited for new members under a certain post count or something? Thanks. |

Thanks. test ETA it seems, to me, that within the editor box the "bold tags" don't show up when you first quote the OP (for example). after you submit, the "Originally Posted By..." is in fact bolded. you can check by clicking "edit" on your post and having a look. |

Ahhhh, thanks for that -Apocalypto-, that sheds light on things. I guess it's a new member or membership tier issue, as most of those functions are missing for me. Only "Add Poll', "Reply", and "New Topic" appear for me at the bottom and top of every post. |
|
ar-jedi: I'm on a PC, using Chrome. The buttons on your picture only include Add Poll, Reply, and New Topic for me, although I've noticed that they all appear on the right side for me, and they seem to be on the left in pictures you guys have posted.
sublimeshooter: I understand. So 50 posts is the magic number then, before I can quote, etc.? |

Classic (Horizontal) -Avatars on the left side or Vertical Format - Avatar on Top I'll log in with a free test account and see what displays, I'm pretty sure that quote is available right away. You could also clear your cookies, cache and force download the page (ctrl F5) |

Hi Phil, I'm using the Classic thread display, with avatars on the left. I cleared the cookies and did Ctrl+F5, with no luck. you can use the windows "snipping tool" or whatever is convenient for you to capture the window. ar-jedi |
Well, that's a bit surprising. After testing the issue in IE, it's definitely only happening in Chrome. I cycled ABP on and off, about 10 times with no change, reloading the page, clearing cookies and using Ctrl+F5 each time, to no avail. However, for some reason on the 11th time or so, it changed. Seems the culprit was ABP after all. Oh well, I guess I'll just live without proper quoting and if I really get the urge, I'll disable it temporarily until I'm done quoting. I rarely have a problem with ABP on most sites, otherwise I'd have tested it much more thoroughly. Thanks for the help, everyone.

For clarification, when I quote someone, I'm clicking the reply button, then hitting the quote button within the editor and then pasting the comments I want to quote. Is quoting really that involved within the forum software? ![]() Quoted:

You could do it manually but that would involve hand-typing in the code. Originally Posted By OMG It Spins! FUAROCK! Blade-at-45!
