to avoid making a dupe, how can I search for the topic I am posting about? This is especially true in General Discussions because the posts go 3 pages deep within the first minute.
All I can do is a google search but that only search the archive.

The expanded search functionality goes with a team membership, and well worth the money
If you click the red online store button it will list all the full functionality of a team member
