- See replies to my posts... so if you are only interested in what people thought of your comments and don't want to read all the other trash...

- Pick up where I left off... a way to be able to jump the the post that followed your last post so you don't have to figure out what page and where on the page you left off

- hot linked post numbers... so if someone answered a question and the question get s asked again by someone who didn't bother reading the other pages, you can link directly to that post. I'm sure there are other uses for this as well.

- mySpace/facebook address in the section of the profiles where the instant messenger usernames are

- Option to embed videos/flash/etc into a post... I know... this might be a serious bandwidth hogger... on both this site and where ever you are embedding a file from... but still... it would be cool.

- an improved hyperlinking. Like in vBulletin where you highlight a chuck of text you have already written and add the link to it instead of having to re-write the text in the box.

- shortcut/keystrokes for text formatting... like CTRL+B will make highlighted text bold... etc.

- a collapse button... one for the ad banners and one for the industry partners. So you get more of the forum information on your screen. Not the same as totally getting rid of that stuff. Maybe make it so you can only do it when you're actually in a thread or something.

- Lite version and Liter version... lite version with minimal graphics, but still pretty to look at... liter for all of the graphics removed.

- a water fountain that runs the Kool-Aid.

I agree it would be nice to jump directly to where you last left off in a thread (either reading or posting) instead of having to remember.

Kind of like this:  John Wayne demonstrates the proper use for a vest ?

The capability is there, it just isn't exposed for easy use.

How'd yins do that?
well, like I said... making it more visible... like in the form of a post number, would be dandy.

well, like I said... making it more visible... like in the form of a post number, would be dandy.

First, you take the URL for the page that has the post you want to link to.  In this example, that URL would be:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=651862&page=1

Next, you go to the specific post you want to link to on that page and find its reply number.  The easiest way I know of to do this is to hit the reply button, then copy the number that follows the "&r=" part of the URL for the reply page.  In this example, the URL of the reply page is:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/manageReply.html?b=1&f=5&t=651862&r=11525018&page=1

which means the reply number is 11525018  ------------------------------------------^

Finally, you append the reply number to the post's page URL (the first URL above) with two pound signs (##) like so:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=651862&page=1##11525018

And that is the URL that links directly to the desired post.  Surround it with [ url ] tags to make it hot, and you are done:

www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=651862&page=1##11525018

So yes, it is possible, but no, it isn't easy.  Thus, I think your suggestion to expose the functionality in an easier to use manner is a good one.  Perhaps each post could have a "Link to this Post" button or something that you could right-click to get the proper URL ready made.

A lot (most?) of this stuff is on it's way already.

No clue... the entire site's presentation layer along with a new default design will be launching in 2008. This is along with new servers being added, upgrades to a number of systems, new media services, new equipment exchange, new text tools, and more things than I can think of.

So keep your eye's out for all sorts of changes and additions!
