Only had Sunday off this weekend, so between adding splits to the smoker for the brisket and drinking beers I was only able to cut out the dovetails and splines and get those installed. Attachment Attached File

Routed shallow groove, bandsawed, then routed to clean it up.

No, I'm not that good yet, nor trust myself that much yet, at least on an almost finished piece. Used a sled and the router table.

I used something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSALD30?tag=arfcom00-20

...to create a few different curve templates out of MDF. Once cut, they were sanded smooth to make sure the curves flowed well. These are a little different and are used to make slightly different shapes. These are then either taped or clamped to the board, and I use (usually) a 1/4" straight bit to route a channel about 1/4" deep in the board. Then you can use either a jigsaw or a bandsaw to cut down the center of the routed channel and then use a flush trim bit to clean the sides. For the inlays, I don't use anything thicker than 1/8". For alignment purposes you usually want your inlay width to be the same as what you cut, so a 1/4" channel means a 1/4" inlay. Glue and clamp, plane, and then do it all over if you want more curves.

No kidding! I just used an 1/8” wood strip that I held at the curve I wanted while my son traced the curve with a pencil.

The wife wanted a tray to put his pins and trinkets in, didnt think it would be proper to have it opened to display those items and see the box with his ashes in it so figured this would work out. The wife loves it, so thats all that matters to me

They very well may be. I'm not an expert in the field. Just used the wife's vision as a guide. She didnt want to take him out of the box they put him in. He is inside a sealed bag, inside of the sealed box and sealed with a county coroner seal that is stamped. So I just made the box with a separate compartment for him.

@winddummy82

Ordered 1.5" x .375 flooring. Common here in the 20s-30s. Not so common anymore. Local hardwood supplier had some come in. I stained them to match the original wood after applying the 1st clear coat to get the color down. I then used stain to weather and match the original floor flaws

Stove apparently is a good one. Had it inspected and it's good to go but I have not used it yet. Had a 40' silver maple cut down and I got some of it for firewood out back. Needs stacked when the ground firms up. Can't say I love the location of the stove but the PO said it will easily heat the entire downstairs.

Small mods to vise:

Wood bushing is for chain saw sharpening.
Heavy saw and trying to close vise, bushing keeps me from dinging teeth on chain on cylinder while holding and getting vise closed.
Can use handle or impact to close vise.

For more complex curves I just use Adobe Illustrator to draw the curves and print them out on adhesive vinyl to make the MDF templates. It helps that my day job is running a printing company :)

Also made a set of handrails for my parents' church. It was a trick to balance the color between the cheesy newer laminate flooring and the old white oak pews and rails. Previously there was nothing to aid a very much aging congregation walking up and down the steps. And then one of them took a bad step and a dive, and then it was time to do something.
