I haven't witnessed an aurora myself since I was a very young child although we had had quite a few all the way down here in West Tn lately.  They tend to happen when I'm sound to sleep in bed but many friends have posted amazing photos of them.  I don't have a clear picture of the night sky because of all the surrounding trees and the lights from the city of 75K or so people that I live smack dab in the center of.  Eventually I will drive out to my RC flying club that's only 8 miles away and is secure requiring a FOB to open the gate and get a good watch when I know the next one is coming.  I keep meaning to take my fairly new Celestron out there anyway and try to locate the star my wife had named after our deceased son.
