I have an old Seiko Kinetic from about 1995. I decided to pull it out of storage and start wearing it again. After wearing it a bit, it is running, but I think it is losing time. I have only worn it about an hour so I suppose it could still charge more, but I doubt it.

So my question to you that know more than me is, assuming it needs service, who do you use? I see a lot of places on the interwebz that offer service. I will call my local guy tomorrow but I have no idea if he deals with these watches. Any thoughts on what I will spend to get it ticking away? Cosmetically it's fine, I will probably get a new band, so I am just asking you guys to guess about how much service it will need given it's age.

Thanks!

I don't have any direct experience with this outfit but the scope of work/service they perform is pretty comprehensive: http://www.kineticrepair.com/

Yeah, I saw them on the web. I have no idea if they are legit or not. The site seems a little fishy, they sure spend a lot of effort saying what other people "don't" do. Not sure I like that type of marketing, could be totally legit doesn't mean I have to like the tactic.

You might want to wear it, or put in your watch winder, and get a full charge on the watch.
I have a Seiko Kinetic, watch charger.
I can put it on and test it for you.

With a full charge on it, if it still losing time / not running right
It will more than likely need the compositor replaced.

When we do this repair, it generally runs about $40.

As far as the band goes, are the pins falling out?  or is the finish wearing off?
If it is just the pins, or something like that, those can be replaced.
Seiko has a bad habit, or discounting bands.
There might, be a universal band you can out on it, for cheaper though.

Thanks G_S, I will let you know if I want to take you up on that.

The band looks OK, it's just a tiny bit small. I guess I've grown in my old age.  I saw one with a black leather band, looks pretty good with the two-tone face. I will probably just do something like that for the band.

Thanks for the reply!
