I know, I know, this gets old for you guys, but I am looking for a new watch. I currently just use an old timex expedition digital watch on a maratac mil spec GI strap. I teach P.E. so its perfect for every day. But, I would like to get something a little bit classier for when I go out on date, or weddings and such. I have a few things I would like in this watch.
1. Be less than 200 2. Black face and band, would like the case to be black as well, but a "gun metal' grey type color. 3. Numbers/hands need to be illuminated. 4. If analog face, would like for it to be eco/kenitic driven/charged. 5. Somewhere in the 40mm case width range. I have found this one, and would like some input or other suggestions if you have them. Thanks! I also really like this one but would prefer to have all the numbers. |

Well, I think I have figured it out a little bit. I like the pilot style of watch, such as this one, http://www.amazon.com/Orient-21-Jewel-Automatic-Aviator-ER2A001B/dp/B00AI1ON7C/ref=cm_wl_huc_item
Not sure if the number illuminate on that one though, but the hands do. |
| Thanks for the input, I was trying to stick with bigger brands, but I hadn't heard of the Orient watch, but it looked pretty much perfect. This Seiko looks pretty good as well. I can deal with the dark grey case. Thoughts on the Seiko 5 series? |

There's probably not much else in the $200 range that isn't going to be a 'fashion' brand (e.g. Nixon, Michael Kors, Diesel). The 5 series isn't actually sold officially in the US from what I understand. It's a product line sold in Asia. So it's pretty much a grey market watch in the US. |

The next one I buy will be this one in normal SS SNZG13J1.
Seiko SNZG17K1 The SNZG17J1 is the same watch but made in Japan. Get it if you can they tend to be a little better. This movement is a workhorse. You could also get a Nato strap to swap it back and forth on as needed. All the watches you mention I would own and wear. I have a Seiko chrono very similar to the one you posted a SNDA67. One of my favorites but, it is a Quartz movement.(not a bad thing). Watch for deals this week since Fathers day is soon. Clipped from a watch site. Just never got comfortable with the ebay thing. |

These guys have it. They get pretty good reviews on the watch boards.
www.creationwatches.com If you run across an all stainless model SNZG13K1 (J1) let me know. I seem to only find them on Ebay since they are a non US market watch. |

I also have a '93 Seiko. you can't go wrong with either one, get what fits your budget and makes you smile. |

Yes, Orient is owned by Seiko and a well established brand in Japan. Orient watches can get you into an quality automatic at an entry level price. They're the largest maker of mechanical movements in Japan, and all of their movements are made in-house. To the OP. I'd stick with well established brands like others have said. One thing to keep in mind with watches with a black finish is that they all wear off, or at least anyone I've owned has, leaving it looking not very appealing and no way of fixing short of replacing the bracelet. If the bracelet is stainless, a rotary tool with a buffing wheel and polishing compound will get it looking new again in no time. Also, I've grown to love watches with atomic time keeping. Especially ones that are multi-function with day-date for instance. The watch just syncs itself nightly to Ft. Collins, and you really don't have to worry about adjusting it every month to account for differences in days. To my knowledge Seiko does not offer any atomic watches. They do offer the Astron which syncs via GPS, but retails for $2000 and could only be had through a few retailers since it was supposed to be a JDM product only. Citizen, and Casio however offer a lot of watches with atomic timekeeping. I wear this watch almost everyday which has both Eco-Drive(solar charging) and Atomic time keeping. http://www.citizenwatch.com/en-us/watches/watch-detail/?model=AT4008-51E Don't let that retail price scare you though. I bought mine from Kohls during a sale for $315 taxes and all. That's another thing I'd recommend, go into a Kohls, find a watch you like, and ask them when it will be on sale next. |

I'm a big Seiko and Island Watch fan. Might want to look here as their prices seem to be lower. |

After looking around a bit, I don't think I will wear this watch often enough to keep it charged, is there a battery or hand wound version of this one? Edit: Found this one. Thoughts? |
