| What is the consensus on the Luminox brand? I think the Recon Point Man looks pretty cool. Anybody have experience with that model? |

Despite what their ads suggest, real SEALs wear G-shocks. If you like that style of analog watch (which is based on MIL-W-46374F-6) I'd lean towards the Traser brand. http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.php?6371-American-Navigators-Marathon-G-and-Traser-H3-P6500 http://home.earthlink.net/~exresearch/InfoPages/W46374F.html |

But for the price you really would be better off with a gshock and a nice auto diver....both of which you could get for the price of one luminox. But I suppose if you already have both of those and just want one it's not so bad. I'd wait for a good deal on a used one personally. |

I beat the hell out of my first one. Accidentally packed it in the luggage return with my wife after leave in Germany. She got me another one and I have no intentions of babying it either. Currently work full time as a Paramedic, so it lives a somewhat adventurous life. Not as much as my first one though.

| I had a black face navy seal watch for 12 years that never let me down. Gave it to a kid that was being deployed to Afghanistan. Have a white face one that I wear occasionally but mostly wear a Sentry 0200, "blacked out" model. They are a rugged watch, and look a lot nicer than a hunk of plastic Casio. |
| I've had my Luminox for years (at least 5) and I never take it off. IMO it's a great watch and I would gladly buy another before I purchased a Walmart brand like Casio. I was talking to a guy in the mil. A few weeks back who complimented my Luminox. Being in the mil. I asked what he thought about Gshock and he just laughed. Different strokes for different folks I guess. |

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Yes because luminox are the watch of navy seals! There's nothing wrong with luminox....but if you knew more about watches, you'd know that luminox watches are simply resin cased watches with quartz movements inside. There are about a thousand other fashion brands that make similar watches with the exact same movement. Yes they are durable and accurate but so are most quartz watches. But if you took apart one you'd be underwhelmed. On the other hand, the first time I looked at the protected inner case of a gshock, I WAS actually impressed. Now, I have lots of watches, gshocks included, and I've used many up, but the gshocks keep on going. I would put money down that a gshock would be more accurate and have a longer service life As I've said before, I actually like some of the luminox offerings, especially the new recon line. But you come in here and call casio a Walmart brand and make out luminox watches to be some kind of tier 1 nonsense, I really can't help but correct you. |

Well I don't buy into the Navy Seal thing but I guess some people do. What drew me to this at first was the Tritium (or similar) illuminated dials. I love them. I'm no watch connoisseur so I admit I may be ignorant to the inner workings of different watches. All I know is that it has self illuminated dials and is as rugged as I could need. I'm good. Is there any other self illuminated watches in the $150-$175 range? |

I have looked into a tritium watch, and you are right, there aren't a ton of affordable choices. I suppose my issue was with saying casio is a Walmart brand and not comparable to a luminox. I think there's a ton of people who would argue with that. I do agree that luminox watches look better than gshocks, generally speaking. But digital watches can't compete with analog watches in the looks dept anyway. I'm not a fan boy for either gshocks or luminox watches....I prefer Japanese and Swiss autos myself. |

Well what's funny is that until recently that's the only place I would see a Casio. I always thought it was a cheap "Ironman Triathlon" wannbe. Obviously that's not the case anymore. I can't stand the looks of the Gshocks, huge clunky pieces of plastic. Like you said, the analog is where it's at. I may try one if I can find one but so bulky. They seem inexpensive enough. |

Weighing in on the Luminox VS Casio debate... Luminox, can be fixed by a jeweler where Casio can not. Also Woot is having a sale on Luminox right now |

Also Woot is having a sale on Luminox right now Are you talking about luminox quartz vs casio quartz? Or vs casio digital watches like most gshocks? I am sorry, I should have been more clear. Luminox quartz, can be fixed. By a jeweler. You can fix the moment, replace the crystal, replace, the stem, touch up the tridium. Finding crowns for them are kind of a pain. GShocks can not be fixed by a jeweler. And you can not replace the crystal. Casio might can fix them, but I a jeweler can not Casio quartz, can be fixed, but it is not always cost prohibitive. Experience: my grandfather has been fixing watches since 1947, and I a third generation fixing watches. |

Luminox, are over priced, don't live up there marketing hype about there reliability, and customer service is crap. Over all not a very good watch exotically for the price. In short don't do it. IMO You can find a better watch for the price. FPNI. wayyyyyy over priced. got one in DEC of 07, started getting screwy in summer of 10. had the battery replaced and got it pressure tested. all was well. about a year later, starts getting screwy again. new battery/pressure tested. worked fine sometimes. other times i would look at it and the second hand would just be twichting, not moving anywhere. no warranty and i wasnt going to pay to have it repaired. bought a new one instead. fuck luminox. |
