Figured this is the best place to ask...

So the wife and I got a would idea to make schnapps from a vodka base.

Everything I'm seeing is simple syrup and infused vodka.  Wife is saying we should start with a mid grade vodka but I'm of the opinion that the infusion and syrup is going to take over anything we but (read in: I'm being cheap).

Anybody try making some and have advice on what NOT to do?

As an aside, I do have an altbier kit I haven't made yet because getting a full boil going on my new outdoor setup has proven to be a HUGE PITA.

For infusions just get pure grain alcohol. It's flavorless and almost always cheaper than vodka.
I started out making my own lemoncello, orangecello and limecello.

You can get PGA in 151 or 200 proof.
