Whats the best method for cleaning beforehand? Dishwasher then cleaning solution? Do i just dunk everything? What needs the most attention? How soon beforehand is good? I basically have no clue and want to do it right!

I am assuming you are talking about brewing beer. Basically everything that you work with should be sanitized. Sterilizing is different and is usually too much for beer. In general. Use your favorite sanitizer (mine is starsan) and sanitize everything based on the instructions. I use starsan because it can come in contact with the wort and I've never had any issues with off tastes. Just let it sit for 30 seconds (I think, check the package) and it's good to go. It will foam like crazy but that's OK. The foam can touch the wort/beer and it will be OK. Did that answer your question? Maybe be more specific if it didn't. Good luck. |

I use StarSan for sanitation but more important than product, is your process. Everything that touches your wort post boil needs to be sanitized, everything including you. Using Star San, immersing something for three mins will kill anything proving it's clean. Also, keep some Star San in a spray bottle to spot sanitize as needed.

| Ditto on the Star-San, don't tear the foam. I keep a dish tub of it handy and a spray bottle. Stuff I'm gonna use lays in the tub, stuff I'm using, touching etc. gets a spray. I use a Vineator for the bottles. You don't need to go crazy during mash & pre-boil, just normal cleanliness. Post boil is when it's most critical. That being said it really doesn't cost anything but maybe a little time to practice proper sanitization for the whole process. |
