I live in NC want to cook a tri tip.  Where do you guys find them? I have tried sams club, fresh market, harris teeter, no local butcher.  No luck.

Thanks

Costco has them in multipacks around these parts. Sometimes they are cut into pieces, so avoid those.

Go talk to a local butcher, a real butcher, hit one up on your next road trip (call first).

Even your local grocer may hook you up if you talk to the butcher.

Costco has them here.  Fresh Market will usually order something they don't usually carry if you ask.  Be prepared to pay a premium though.....

If you get them at Albertson's, out here in CA they carry two varieties. There is one with a black label marked "Angus". It is far superior to the other house brand.
I've often found them at reduced price on Tuesday or Wednesday as they rotate stock out from what didn't get sold over the weekend.
They usually have a trimmed and non-trimmed version. I always get the non trimmed, dry rub it and cook it fat side down on indirect heat.
They come out really nice!
